The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center is seeking a competent Researcher specialized in Climate Change Policy and Adaptation to join its office in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The regional researcher will lead and provide support to ongoing research projects related to climate change adaptation and policy. The candidate will be responsible for designing, planning, and leading project activities and work packages related to climate change, adaptation, and mitigation policies, as well as resilience and the water-energy-food nexus in South Asia, aligning with national priorities. The candidate will build new partnerships and facilitate engagement with various project donors and partners in consultation with the Country Representative.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead project activities and work packages in different projects related to implementing climate change policy, adaptation, and mitigation. Provide research support to new and ongoing projects related to climate change under present and future drivers of change. As part of multinational and multidisciplinary teams, develop approaches to build resilience and mitigate environmental impacts in South Asia\u2019s agri-food systems. Lead and coordinate the collection of data, including designing survey instruments and protocols for qualitative in-depth surveys, training survey supervisors and enumerators. Engage with and facilitate participatory processes with partners, stakeholders' engagement and partnerships, organization of workshops, co-designing of innovations, and project management. Take the lead in stakeholder engagements with relevant government departments and partners under projects. Mentor junior research staff and students and provide input to their individual goals and support developmental feedback. Identify new research trends and niches and develop multi-year multi-partner proposals for innovative research. Lead and contribute to proposal writing and fundraising opportunities for bilateral and multilateral funding sources. Convene and attend workshops, conferences, and webinars in a range of international, regional, and national settings. Disseminate research findings via peer-reviewed publications, research reports, and popular articles.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Essential,

PhD in Geography, Economics, Development Studies, Public Policy, Environmental Science, or a related field coupled with 03 years of relevant post-doctoral experience OR; a Master\u2019s degree in the aforementioned fields coupled with a minimum of 08 years of relevant experience. Demonstrated understanding of climate adaptation and natural resources management related to water management in South Asia. Experience working with water management and knowledge of climate change impacts on water and agriculture. Strong experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research, including in-depth surveys, scoping and systematic reviews, data processing, analysis, and reporting. Experience handling secondary data from various government sources. Experience using statistical and/or qualitative software packages (e.g., STATA/R and/or Atlas Ti, Nvivo). Experience managing and navigating partner and stakeholder relationships with governmental, private sector, and community counterparts at various levels of organizational hierarchies (i.e., senior to lower management, and professional staff), and at the regional, national, and local levels. Experience working with research organizations in South Asia. Excellent track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals related to expertise of this role.

Desirable,

Field experience in rural areas of Bangladesh. Work experience within CGIAR. Experience of working in an international and multi-cultural environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Essential,

Sound qualitative and analytical skills, and the ability to synthesize and write persuasively. Strong background in practical, problem-solving policy research. Advanced skills in interaction with partners/clients, and good interpersonal and communication skills in leading research teams. Demonstrable capacity for research leadership as a team leader or team player, while working harmoniously in interdisciplinary and multicultural teams. Excellent oral and written language skills in English, including effective listening and strong verbal and written communication abilities. Willingness to travel within the region, including the ability to travel to remote areas on extended field trips.

Desirable,

Proficiency in Bengali (Bangla) will be considered an asset.
