Recruitment for Landscape and Livelihood Science-to-Policy Engagement Officer

Overview

Every year ICRAF Indonesia implement 15-25 bilateral projects on various research topics in Indonesia. Each project will develop knowledge products that are valuable to be mainstreamed into policy framework in Indonesia, both at national and local level. One of the mainstreaming processes which has not yet optimally utilized is the engagement through effective written-communication materials and strategic journalism. ICRAF Indonesia is currently also implementing a five-year project entitled Sustainable Landscapes for Climate- Resilient Livelihoods in Indonesia (Land4Lives). The Project is funded by Global Affair Canada (GAC). The Project aims to increase Indonesia's economic and climate-resilience livelihoods and food security for poor and vulnerable groups, particularly women and girls. Land4Lives will be implemented in South Sumatra, South Sulawesi, and East Nusa Tenggara.

The position will lead Land4Lives policy engagement and mainstreaming. The Landscape and Livelihood Science- to-Policy Engagement Officer will work closely with the Research Delivery Team Leader of the ICRAF Indonesia Country Program to ensure the production of effective policy and journalism materials to support various project in ICRAF Indonesia. She/he will work within the Program Management Unit while maintaining close coordination with Principals Investigators and Project Leadership Team of various research projects in the country programs. The position is responsible for developing a strategic journalistic engagement plan tailored to program activities at the provincial level. This position will prepare draft policy and communication materials as well as responses to queries received from a variety of sources such as GOI provincial and district-level stakeholders and the general public.

Duties and responsibilities Specific Project Goals Develop, implement, and manage a cohesive policy engagement strategy of the ICRAF Indonesia Country Program through effective journalism and communication materials. Lead overall engagement activities of Land4Lives across all levels national, provincial, district and villages through a well developed and implemented science-to-policy approach. Actively participated and involved in strategic planning and reporting of Land4Lives. Serve as the front line of contact for ICRAF Indonesia Country Program communication activities related to the mainstreaming of research results to policy dialogue especially through involvement of mass media and journalist. Provide strategic advice on research results delivery for country programme. Contribute to developing and delivering strategic media communication materials such as press release for Indonesia Country Program. Cultivate and maintain strategic media engagement to disseminate strategic research results within Land4Lives Project and other relevant activities in the country programme. Develop a country strategy for social media engagement and oversee the overall delivery of research output through social media engagement through excellent content curation and individual interaction. Contribute to developing project communications strategy and workplan for all project within ICRAF Indonesia Country Program. The position is expected to nurture a strong coordination with Project Leadership Team, Project Officer, and Program Operation Specialist. Provide ongoing advice, assistance, and technical support for the project team in delivering project results to the targeted audience. Knowledge management To be familiar with the cultural, socio-economic, and political environment of the region and province related to the project. Draws up reports and presentation documents. Coordinate the results and lessons learned documentation.

Education, knowledge and experience

  • Educational background (bachelor’s degree) in natural resource management, public communication, public relation, and another related field.
  • Vast network with media, government organization and international organization operating in Indonesia.
  • Minimum 8 (eight) years of a successful work experience record in the subject area (s) related to journalism, policy engagement, formal communication, and another related field.
  • Demonstrated self-motivational and result-oriented nature; good planning and problem analysing/solving skills.

    Terms and conditions

    • This is a Locally Recruited Staff (LRS) position. CIFOR-ICRAF offers competitive remuneration in local currency, commensurate with skills and experience.
    • The appointment will be for 1 (one) year, inclusive of a six-month probationary period, with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources.
    • The duty station will be in Bogor, Jawa Barat.
