UNDP first became active in Uzbekistan in 1993 and has over subsequent decades implemented hundreds of projects alongside the national government, business, civil society and academic. The directions of UNDP’s work in Uzbekistan reflect the current UN Country Programme Document (CPD) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for 2021-2025. They also align with the national Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the 2030 Agenda, and Uzbekistan’s Development Strategy for 2022-2026. Throughout 2020 UNDP helped address the national health and socio-economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and is continuing to actively assist in Uzbekistan’s inclusive, green recovery. 

UNDP has been active in more than 170 countries and territories around the world, helping eradicate poverty and reduce inequalities and increase inclusion. In Uzbekistan, UNDP has its main office in the capital of Tashkent city, and secondary offices in the cities of Nukus and Namangan. Three current directions of work include ‘Inclusive and Democratic Governance’, ‘Inclusive and Sustainable Growth’, and ‘Climate and Disaster Resilience’. 

Position purpose

The Programme intern will support Cluster Leader / Project Manager by providing support to one of clusters / projects high quality of work, accurate, timely and properly recorded/documented service delivery.

  Duties and Responsibilities Outreach and communications: Support the development and translation of press releases, statements, and briefs into English and/or Uzbek/Russian. Contribute to implementing the project’s/cluster’s communication plan. Assist in planning and executing events and consultations, with a focus on creating visually appealing pre/post communication products. Collecting and managing knowledge materials: Search, gather, and maintain best practices in the project sphere. Support knowledge management systems and tools of the project/cluster team. Preparation of substantive documentation: Assist in preparing substantive documentation and conducting research across multiple policy areas related to Sustainable Development Goals implementation. Support for conferences and meetings: Assist in the substantive and administrative preparation of major national and international conferences and meetings supported by the Project/Cluster. Data analysis and visualization: Analyze qualitative or quantitative sustainable development data and create related data visualizations. Reporting and summarization: Follow and report on various intergovernmental, interagency, and expert group meetings, and prepare draft summaries of discussions and consultations as required. Information and database management: Assist with information and database management tasks as needed by the project/cluster.

The Intern works in close collaboration with the programme, project teams to exchange information and ensure consistent service delivery.   Competencies

  Required Skills and Experience
Education:

Applicants to the internship must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: 

(a) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent) in international relations, economy, law or other related fields;

(b) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); 

(c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation 

Experience: Demonstrated interest and/or experience in project management, foreign policy or other related fields are welcomed, but not required.  Required Skills: A well-organized individual with the ability to multi-task;   Ability to work productively and effectively with others and individually;   Respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter and the UNDP Statement of Purpose    Disclaimer
