The Position

The Program Officer is an integral member of the Program Management and Compliance team and will have an opportunity to influence and execute part of the team’s strategy to grow program impact as part of our overall organizational strategy: All Girls Standing Strong

Working collaboratively with a team of program managers, compliance managers and technical advisors, you will be responsible for supporting the team’s work to meet project deliverable requirements. You will support interdisciplinary teams working on existing large projects in the coordination, administrative, communication and reporting functions, with support from your People Leader/Program Manager (PL/PM). You will assist in organizing and executing meetings, and in the review and finalization of donor deliverables, such as donor reports and knowledge management products.

We are looking for a candidate that can bring an energetic approach to program management and compliance; someone who is able to multi-task in a demanding work environment. Our successful candidate will be experienced in program management and team coordination, managing relationships with various stakeholders in the organization, be proactive and prioritize tasks. Responsiveness and flexibility are critical factors for success.

What success looks like?

  • Positive relationships and strong coordination demonstrated with Plan International Canada team members and colleagues within Plan International Country Offices.
  • Administrative, communication and grants coordination support provided to a team of Program Managers and Senior Program Managers.
  • Management of assigned projects to maintain program quality standards and ensure compliance to donor agreements and Plan International Canada standards.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the evolving demands of the Program Management and Compliance department and participate in new initiatives as required.
  • Timely and quality reporting to donors and Plan International Canada’s Marketing, Communications and Philanthropy department.
  • Other administrative and coordination tasks (as assigned) undertaken in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Support critical grant processes (e.g. start-up, annual planning, closure, etc.) developed in a participatory manner with Country Office colleagues, partners and project teams
  • Develop presentations for workshops or meetings or assist team members in their development.

    As our ideal candidate you will have:

    • Fluency in English, verbal and written communication. Proficiency in French considered an asset.
    • Demonstrated experience in program management and/or supporting teams to deliver programs on time. Experience working on international development programs preferred.
    • Knowledge or prior experience working with a variety of international development funding agencies/donor compliance requirements (e.g. Global Affairs Canada) and rights-based programming is an asset.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    • A proven track record in supporting teams to reach common goals and deliverables.
    • Business acumen and the ability to influence others by fostering strong business relationships across the organization and with field offices, donors and other partners.
    • A flexible and adaptable work style; open to collaboration; thrive in a fast-paced evolving work culture.
    • A passion for mission driven work and personal values aligned with those of Plan International Canada’s organizational values.
