Cordaid South Sudan has been active in South Sudan for more than 20 years, with a strong focus on civil society capacity-building. Currently it has programs in the area of Emergency Response, DRR, Health, Food Security, Security & Justice, Women Leadership and Investments.

Presently, Cordaid South Sudan is expanding its program in different parts of the country. For that purpose, additional capacity is required. Therefore, Cordaid South Sudan would like to recruit for the position of Physician.

Based in Torit Reporting line The medical physician will work under the supervision of Project Coordinator and he /she will be based in Torit.

The physician will be part of Cordaid team South Sudan, and he/she will be responsible for the department of medicine: planning, organization, supervision of Ward Staff and performing continues capacity building. The physician will work alongside other medical staff of Torit Hospital to provide clinical care and support to patients admitted at the hospital. He/she will provide technical support to other medical staff ensuring that they are able to effectively provide curative, preventive and promotive health care services at Torit Hospital.

Key Responsibilities Management

  1. Planning, budgeting, forecasting, overall coordination and implementation of departmental activities
  2. Provide technical support in developing strategies in ensuring efficiency of service delivery in the department of Medicine
  3. Directly supervise and regularly appraise departmental staff
  4. Identify training needs and participate in capacity building of all health staff within the department of Medicine as well as other department staffs.
  5. Work closely with other Heads of Departments (HoDs) and senior colleagues in designing appropriate interventions for quality service delivery at the hospital
  6. Undertake management responsibilities assigned to him/her from time to time by his/her Supervisor
  7. Exclusively accountable for the preparation of all reports emanating from his/her department
  8. Together with fellow Medical Officers (MOs), Medical Director and Matron, participate in identification of hospital staff training needs and provides training of staff and other selected people as may be required. Participate in and facilitate Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions at the hospital
  9. Participate in the training of medical staff to ensure the maximum use of their skills and their full and effective participation in medical activities. On-job training of other staff in clinical skills shall be undertaken.

a) Services Delivery

  1. Examine, diagnose and treat patients in accordance with national guidelines and protocols
  2. Conduct ward rounds and consultations as necessary
  3. Ensure that Clinicians and Nursing staff in the department of medicine carry out patients care according to protocols, guidelines, clinical management charts and instructions provided
  4. Together with Matron and Nurses in charge of wards, responsible for submitting requests for medicines and medical supplies to hospital medical store with approval from the Medical Director
  5. Ensure that all admitted patients in the medical ward receive care as per guidelines and protocol
  6. Anticipate changing needs and emergencies. Be prepared to participate in responding to emergencies and disasters at all time

b) Monitoring and Evaluation

  1. Ensure correct filling of registers, record keeping and data management in the department
  2. Ensure that raw data reports are prepared and submitted on a timely manner to Data Officer for compilation
  3. Participate in writing timely and accurate monthly and quarterly reports ensuring the input of all departmental staff concerned
  4. Participate in monitoring and evaluation of departmental activities

c) Representation

  1. Liaise with Hospital management Board.

Qualifications and skills

  1. MBBS degree or its equivalent from a recognized university or Institution
  2. Master’s degree in internal Medicine from a recognized institution
  3. Professional working experience of at least 2 years as a Specialist
  4. Applicant should be eligible for registration with South Sudan General Medical Council
  5. A proven record of research and publications will be an added advantage
  6. Applicant should have demonstrable qualities of leadership and integrity
