Organizational Setting:

The selected applicant will work on projects GCP/SRB/002/GFF, GCP/SRB/006/EC, and GCP/SRB/004/GCR in the scope of the FAO Office in Serbia that assists the Government in developing policies, and relating activities in accordance with FAO's response to regional priorities for food security, agriculture and rural development through the identification, planning and implementation of FAO's priority activities in the region.

Reporting Lines

Under technical supervision of the LTOs for projects GCP/SRB/006/EC, GCP/SRB/004/GCR and GCP/SRB/002/GFF, and the administrative supervision of the National Project Coordinator for Serbia, and in close cooperation with National Project Coordinators , the REU Programme Specialist and REU Communications Officer, the National Communications/Outreach Specialist will carry out the following activities:

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Develop the communication strategy for the project and a detailed communication plan for the first year;
  • Develop and coordinate implementation of annual Communication and Visibility Plan in line with the FAO and EU rules under GCP/SRB/006/EC;
  • Develop and coordinate implementation of annual Communication and Visibility Plan in line with the FAO and GEF rules under GCP/SRB/002/GFF;
  • Develop at least one communication item per month (project brief, brochure, success story, slideshow, printed banner or backdrop, etc.) to promote the project activities;
  • Serve as the project focal point, addressing queries from editors and journalists, and facilitating media field visits to FAO project locations in the country;
  • Participate in planning and organizing public events (conferences, presentations, training events, visits of officials, field visits, etc.) ensuring consistency of messages, quality of events, and visibility;
  • Assist and advise local staff on how to interact effectively with the media, and work closely with them to develop ideas for activities and initiatives to be publicized;
  • Maintain close contacts and collaborate effectively with the UN country team's communication unit, and contribute to the joint UN initiatives and campaigns;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • University degree (MA) in Communication, Public Relations or Journalism, or equivalent professional experience, 5 years of relevant experience at the national or international level;
  • Hands-on experience in developing and implementing communication and visibility strategies and plans in the field of development;
  • Press release writing, project visibility, outreach and presentation delivery skills;
  • Excellent knowledge of English and Serbian;
  • National of Serbia or resident in the country with a regular work permit.

  • Experience with producing video and photo materials;
  • Good understanding of agriculture-related issues;
  • Experience of working with international donors, as well as the government;
  • Experience of working with local and international media;
  • Availability to travel within the country, as required; Knowledge and experience working for the UN is an asset.

Additional Selection Criteria

Ability to work on international teams and with remote supervision.
