What we are looking for:

NRC is seeking an organised and flexible Media & Advocacy Adviser with excellent communications skills in both English and Norwegian and a solid understanding of Norwegian and International media. The ideal candidate has experience from journalism or media and communications work, is interested in the humanitarian sector and has the ability to quickly adapt, learn and hit the ground running. If you’re also a good team player, have the ability to juggle many competing tasks and deadlines, and know how to handle a crisis – this could be the dream job for you.  

What you will do:  

Generic responsibilities:  

Initiate, produce and edit strong global media and advocacy products including media plans, press releases, social media material and talking points.  Advise regional offices and country offices on media and advocacy work, support, and coordinate initiatives.  Promote, advocate, and raise awareness around NRC’s global activities, results, and initiatives through a variety of communication vehicles in close cooperation with the regional and country offices.  Support the implementation of NRC’s global advocacy strategy.  Take part in the section’s system for media duty during evenings and weekends.  Any other tasks and responsibilities falling under the sections mandate, as instructed by the line manager.  

Specific responsibilities:  

Responsible for managing incoming global media requests, build and maintain NRC’s strong network of media contacts internationally and its solid reputation among journalists.  Help strengthen NRC’s media work in the Nordics by developing media plans, building strong media contacts, writing, editing, and translating media products, and pitching.   Actively pitch, coordinate and manage interviews for senior and other NRC staff and spokespersons, including managing the NRC’s studio. What you will bring: 

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.   Minimum a bachelor’s degree within communications, journalism, social sciences, or similar fields.   Professional knowledge of communications, public relations, or journalism.   Knowledge of the humanitarian sector.  Fluency in Norwegian and English, both written and verbal.   Excellent writing, editing and language skills and experience in writing and editing wide-reaching public documents.   High level of flexibility.    Ability to initiate and drive work forward.   

What we offer: 

Duty station: Oslo, Norway  Contract: National Temporary Contract - Up to 31st Dec 2024.  Salary/benefits: Grade 8 on NRC’s regional salary scale, with accompanying terms and conditions.  NRC is an equal opportunities employer.
