Description

You will report to the Head of the LEO-PNT Project in the LEO-PNT Project Office, Future Navigation Department, Directorate of Navigation.

The LEO-PNT Project, a component of the FutureNAV Programme, includes the implementation of an overall end-to-end In-Orbit Service Demonstrator for Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) including System Engineering, Satellites and Launch Services, Ground Segment and Operations, System Validation, Experimentation and Service Demonstration.

Duties

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • implementing the overall mission validation and experimentation and service demonstration activities related to the LEO-PNT project;
  • capturing relevant stakeholder needs and mission drivers for service provision in view of all candidate LEO-PNT applications and use cases;
  • leading the identification and description of new use cases for LEO-PNT in support of consolidation of LEO-PNT operational mission drivers;
  • consolidating and maintaining the mission requirements, validation, experimentation and service demonstration requirements baseline applicable to the LEO-PNT project, including those related to end-user equipment used for experimentation and service demonstration;
  • monitoring the LEO-PNT industrial activities for the correct implementation of the mission validation, experimentation and service demonstration, within the LEO-PNT project;
  • supporting the procurement of experimentation and service demonstration activities of the FutureNAV programme LEO-PNT component;
  • defining and implementing service demonstration activities of relevant LEO-PNT applications and verticals involving relevant actors of the complete value chain;
  • coordinating with System Engineering, Space Segment, Ground Segment and Operations, in your area of expertise;
  • monitoring the planning, preparation and implementation of a consistent and effective system validation, experimentation and service demonstration plan;
  • acting as focal point in your area of expertise for LEO-PNT mission and service demonstration aspects within the Agency and with other external partners;
  • generating status reporting, conclusions, recommendations and lessons learned for LEO-PNT.
  • ensuring coherence and consistency of mission drivers of LEO-PNT activities, in coordination with other teams in the Directorate of Navigation, in preparation of subsequent operational phases, either with institutional or commercial entities.

    In the execution of your tasks, you will be supported by a team of specialists from the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality and the Directorate of Operations.

    Education

    A master's degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline is required for this post.

    Additional requirements

    • Experience in LEO-PNT systems and/or GNSS mission, performances, experimentation and user receivers is considered an asset;
    • Strong communication skills and relationship management experience are assets, as is international experience, i.e. outside your home country, as well as experience in diverse functional areas relevant to ESA activities.
    • Demonstrated planning and organisational skills;
    • A strong result orientation with the ability to set priorities and present practical solutions both orally and in writing;
    • Strong problem-solving skills to deal with day-to-day operational challenges;
    • The ability to manage challenging situations proactively and constructively and to be customer focused.

      The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
