The agreement sets out the legal obligations and the measures to be taken by both parties to combat illegal logging and improve governance in the forestry sector. This participatory decision-making process involves government agencies, civil society organizations, the timber industry and local communities. The multi-stakeholder process is key to the FLEGT process. The current framework of a new EU regulation on deforestation-free products requires further technical advice particularly on adaptations in the existing Lao legal framework and value chain development.
