Organizational context

Since August 2017, under the leadership of the Government of Bangladesh (GoB), UNHCR has undertaken a large-scale response to provide protection and assistance to Rohingya refugees from Myanmar, who fled violence and persecution in Rakhine State. As of 31 December 2022, 952,309 Rohingya refugees were residing in Bangladesh’s Chittagong Division, with 923,358 of them living in 33 extremely congested camps formally designated by the GoB in Cox’s Bazar District. The remaining 28,951 Rohingya refugees reside on Bhasan Char, an island located 60km from the Bangladesh mainland, and were relocated from Cox’s Bazar by the GoB as part of a project to decongest the camps.

UNHCR’s Community-based Protection Unit works to engage refugee communities as agents of their own protection in the camps. The unit aims to provide refugees with information, skills and opportunities to strengthen their resilience and that of their communities. • Undertake all UNHCR mandatory trainings and those relevant to CBP.

• Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.
• Excellent verbal and writing communication skills in English are required.

Conditions
It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 8.00am to 5:00pm Sunday to Thursday (40 hours per week). The successful candidate will be assigned to support the team in Cox’s Bazar Bangladesh.
