FHI 360 is seeking a collaborative professional for the role of Family Engagement Coordinator to support the day-to-day responsibilities of supporting family participation and supports. The Family Engagement Coordinator will support the Community School Models at David Paterson Fulton Elementary School, and ABGS Middle School. The community school model calls for an assessment of students’ academic, socio-emotional, and physical strengths and needs, a review of the existing supports and interventions, and the development of a school-wide community school plan. The Family Engagement Coordinator will ensure effective involvement of families; support a partnership among the schools, parents, and the community to improve student academic achievement; build families’ capacity for becoming involved in improving their child’s academic achievement; encourage families to be actively involved in their child’s education.
The Family engagement coordinator will become part of the school community and will collaborate with and support the Community School Directors (CSDs), principals, school staff, parents, partners, and members of the community by initiating, facilitating, and maintaining programs and strategies that help the school set and meet the vision and goals of becoming a community school. The Family Engagement Coordinator will be based within the district but will be part of the FHI 360’s US Education department and will be supervised by the Director of the initiative.
FHI 360 seeks a full-time Family Engagement Coordinator to carry out the key responsibilities of supporting and connecting with parents and families using the Community Schools Model. Principle activities include:
Communication and Relationship Building
Connect with the school community through meetings and a variety of communication channels.
Develop strong relationships with families and community partners.
Conduct outreach and help facilitate the referral process to available resources.
Help families/caregivers to understand and support relevant academic, social, emotional, and developmental supports.
Program Support
Provide management of the day-to-day operations of family and community programs.
Collaborate with school-based parent liaisons and parent groups.
Organize meetings, special events and logistics.
Facilitate the implementation of best practices for family engagement.
Serve as a key resource for connecting families with community resources.
Develop strong formal community relationships to build capacity for families
Help ensure that all students are connected to a range of prevention, intervention, and support services that address their physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development.
Participate in Community Engagement Team meetings.
Serve as a family engagement champion by coordinating ongoing outreach and communications.
Data Based Supports
Support a collaborative community assessment to determine ongoing needs of students and families.
Work with data specialists to analyze the implementation of the Community Schools Model and the delivery of services.
Research and prepare relevant data to bring to meetings as evidence of what is working, where challenges need to be addressed, and what next steps should be taken.
Education:
Associate degree and/or comparable job experience in Communications, Education, Health, Behavioral, Human Development or Related Field.
Experience:
Ability to work effectively with elementary and middle school youth, families, and communities from a wide range of cultural, social, and economic backgrounds.
Experience working in an urban school or youth development environment and with families in need of services.
Ability to engage and connect with parents and families. Comfortable helping to coordinate housing, healthcare, counseling, education, or rehabilitative services.
Excellent organizational and time management skills. Awareness of culturally competent practices and a deep knowledge of and connection with the school community.
Comfort both in working alone and collaboratively, with strong relationship building skills.
Willingness and flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as school and community events require.
A self-starter, visionary leader, who can also manage and coordinate many projects at one time.
Effective written and oral communication skills. Expertise with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Prezi, and other productivity and communication tools.
Familiarity with available student support services.
Fluency in written and spoken English. Spanish language fluency is a benefit
Fingerprinting and background clearances will be a requirement.
Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Zoom/Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.
Hiring salary range: $50,000 - $55,000
