PROJECT BACKGROUND

The Africa Trade and Investment (ATI) Activity is designed to bolster the U.S. Government’s ability to boost trade and investment too, from, and within the African continent. The continent-wide program is USAID’s flagship effort in support of the Prosper Africa initiative and will expand and accelerate two-way trade and investment between African nations and the United States.

Driven by market demand, ATI embraces innovative approaches to achieve its goals. ATI is designed as a small, core set of centrally coordinated technical and institutional support activities and a large, flexible performance-based subcontracting and grants under contract facility designed to support the needs and opportunities that USAID Missions and the private sector identify.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Environmental Compliance Assistant will be responsible for providing support to the ATI Environmental Compliance Team. The Assistant will support the Environmental Compliance Team with specific duties and responsibilities as outlined below:

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant will work with the Environment and Social Risk Manager or designee to provide support in the following task areas:

  • Follow up with partners on regular environmental compliance reporting and ensure that the reporting is done as per schedule.
  • Regularly update the partner environmental compliance reporting and auditing schedule and plan.
  • Support in conducting specified partner monitoring spot checks in the field.
  • Work and coordinate with partners and convene key meetings such as capacity building/training sessions, audit feedback sessions and kick-off sessions in a timely and organized manner.
  • Support in taking notes during environmental compliance meetings with partners and follow up on any requirements that may arise.
  • As guided, carry out relevant environmental compliance information sourcing and compilation, report writing and presentation.
  • Appraise environmental compliance reporting requirements and ensure completeness and accuracy of records.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or any other related field.
  • 4+ years of relevant work experience preferably within USG programs.
  • Have formal training or interest environmental and social risk management of development programs.
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in the field, including remote areas, as this position may involve some travelling.

REPORTING: The position will report to the Environmental Compliance and Social Risk Manager or designee.
