Driver -ICRISAT Kenya
Overview To support transport activities in ICRISAT under the Programs and assist in the daily errands.
Duties and responsibilities
- Drive ICRISAT staff, partners, and affiliates when required.
- Monitor day-to-day maintenance checks including but not limited to oil, water, battery, breaks, tires, etc.
- Delivery and pickup of items, documentation ensuring accurate capture of what the item/documentation is, who requested the transport of the item, who received the item, and obtaining proper signatures.
- Work with the Office Administrator to Update vehicle documents when due.
- Actively communicate and systematically report any incident or accident, or breakdown, that occurs on the vehicle to his/her supervisors; and verify that all vehicle administrative documents are in place and updated (insurance, vehicle registration).
- Plan for timely vehicle service with approvals from the Budget Holder.
- Conducts various analyses and inspections of vehicles and mechanical systems to determine the most cost-effective means of maintenance, repair and replacement.
- Ensure the allocated vehicle has valid documents and in conformity with traffic rules and safety regulations of Kenya track laws.
- Fill the Logbook after each trip with the correct information in accordance with the procedures and be able to explain all the movements mentioned when needed.
- Keep records in the vehicle logbook e.g., fuel, mileage and submit to the office Administrator on a weekly and monthly basis.
- Ensure that all passengers on board the vehicle comply with safety measures or regulations & are ICRISAT staff or partners only.
Requirements
- Two years’ work as a professional driver in an NGO organization.
- O-level of education.
- Thorough knowledge of road rules and regulations.
- Valid driving license.
- Defensive driving is an added advantage.
- Skills in minor vehicle repair.
- Competent in spoken and written English.

- This is a Locally Recruited Staff (LRS) position. CIFOR-ICRAF offers competitive remuneration in local currency commensurate with skills and experience.
