Reporting to: Conservation Action Programme Officer Work percentage: 100% Grade: P1 Expected start date: 15 September 2023 Type of contract: Fixed-term (12 months with possibility of renewal) Closing date: 06 August 2023 BACKGROUND IUCN Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (ECARO) is seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic candidate to join the IUCN ECARO team as Conservation Action Project Officer.
The successful candidate will work in close cooperation with the IUCN ECARO Director and IUCN Programme Centres, and will be responsible for the coordination and management of projects under the Conservation Action Programme Area in Eastern Europe and Central Asia with a primary focus on conservation outcomes.
The tasks of the Conservation Action Project Officer will also include support to programme and project development, and cooperation with IUCN Programme Centres, Members, Commissions, and partners. JOB DESCRIPTION GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Project coordination, management, and reporting;
• Support the development of the IUCN ECARO Conservation Action programme area;
• Identification of programme priorities and project development opportunities;
• Development of high quality projects in coordination with IUCN teams, members, experts and partners;
• Support the development of IUCN knowledge standards and tools;
• Liaison with IUCN members, commissions, donors, and partners.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
• Coordinate and manage projects under the Conservation Action Programme Area with a specific focus on green transition and nature conservation policies;
• Ensure high-quality project planning and management, including the preparation and monitoring of partnership and service contracts, annual work plans and budgets, and technical reports;
• Ensure that all project-related entries on the IUCN Project Portal are accurate and up-to-date;
• Assist in the identification of new opportunities and development of project proposals related to protected and conserved areas;
• Contribute to the development of IUCN conservation standards and tools and their proper dissemination and uptake among partners in the region;
• Support the project-related development of communications material and content on protected and conserved areas;
• Identification of new partnership opportunities and partner relationship management;
• Assist in the preparation of programme-related meetings and events;
• Represent IUCN at national, regional, and international events;
• Carry out other relevant tasks on request and agreement with the line manager.
SALARY
The gross annual salary for this position is in the range from 28.800 EUR to 35.999 EUR subject to deductions for social security contributions and health insurance, and before tax.
The Conservation Action Project Officer will be required to travel frequently, specifically in relation to project implementation. REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental sciences, biodiversity conservation, natural resource management or comparable studies;
• At least five years of experience in a relevant position;
• Experience in all phases of the project management cycle;
• Experience working in Eastern Europe (in particular Moldova, Armenia, Georgia or Ukraine);
• In depth understanding of global, regional and EU nature conservation policies and European Green Deal and green transition policies;
• Good knowledge of nature conservation challenges and ongoing processes relevant for Eastern Europe countries (in particular Moldova, Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine);
• Proven ability to work under pressure;
• Experience in partner relations and multi-stakeholder processes;
• Ability to work in an international environment and interact with different cultural backgrounds;
• Excellent command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of other languages spoken in the region is an asset;
• Ability to cope with a varied workload and flexible working hours;
• Willingness to travel within the region, sometimes at short notice;
