We are excited to announce this new position in Action for Education. The Communications Officer will play a strategic, critical and powerful role in boosting AFE’s public profile and fundraising efforts. In doing so, they will unlock major opportunities that bring greater support to refugee communities.
Action for Education is an independent, grassroots organization founded in the UK and Greece in 2018. We develop and support projects that aim to remove the barriers to education for displaced communities.
The Communications Officer will work closely with AFE’s Director and the organisational team, in line with the organisation’s long-term strategic plan. Chief responsibilities include producing social media content, planning and implementing fundraising campaigns, and developing innovative funding solutions. The position is primarily a remote role, but requires a deep understanding of AFE’s education and refugee support work and includes regular field visits. As such, it is expected that the successful candidate works in either of our project locations in Greece.
Communicate the identity and mission of AFE to the public
Produce strong and engaging visual and written content for all AFE platforms
Assist in the planning and executing fundraising campaigns
Manage AFE social media accounts
Help create and implement a robust branding strategy
Boldly generate creative, exciting and out-of-the-box fundraising ideas and solutions
You have excellent written and verbal communication skills
You are fluent in English (oral and written)
You demonstrate strong prioritisation and time management skills
You speak with knowledge, confidence and critical reflection on issues of migration
You have a good understanding of the refugee situation in Greece
You have an eye for good design and pay close attention to detail
You have experience of managing social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), websites and blogs
You have experience of producing both written and audiovisual content to a high standard
You are a bold and creative thinker, who is excited about shaking up the status quo
You are confident working with softwares such as Canva, Wix Mailerlite or similar
Other relevant skills
Knowledge of Greek or Spanish
Experience in grant applications and reporting
Proficiency in using photo, web and video editing software
Relevant academic qualification

The position is initially for 6 months (with extension pending review). We offer an initial stipend of €550, a private room in a shared apartment, and a €200 travel bursary per quarter.
