Job description

The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a programme for the prevention of violence and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. In Cameroon, the CPS contributes to nonviolent conflict transformation, preventing the escalation of violence and strengthening social cohesion. CPS supports civil society partners in their collective goal-oriented commitment to non-violent conflict transformation, the improvement of social relations through dialogue, and the practice of democratic participation of young people. In addition, CPS supports partners in developing measures of psychosocial support. These measures serve them and their target groups to deal with the psychosocial consequences of violence and polarisation and thus strengthen their resilience.

Your tasks

As part of your service as a Civil Peace Service advisor, you will take on the following tasks:

Support the civil society organisation Horizon Jeunes to develop and implement peace promotion and social cohesion concepts in collaboration with peace youth clubs in the different neighbourhoods of Dschang’s city Develop jointly with the partner organisations and a CPS advisor for dialogue capacity building on dialogue, human rights, participation and social cohesion towards peace actors in the different communities - supporting them further in the implementation of a non-violent communication strategy Contribute to the facilitation for dialogue processes with local and traditional authorities which enable young people to express their own civic engagement and concerns Contribution to a creative projects of youth participation together with other partner organisations and the CPS dialogue advisor Support Horizon Jeunes and if requested other CPS partner organisations in project development and fundraising Contribute to the monitoring of outcomes in the field of youth participation and civic engagement, together with partner organisation(s) and the CPS team by fostering reflection on improvement of approaches and methods Support the integration of conflict sensitivity, human rights based approach and a gender perspective in all projects measures Documentation of learning experiences and good practices for knowledge management among the CPS team, the CPS partners’ network in Cameroon, CPS of GIZ, the CPS consortium and the GIZ Network International Cooperation in Conflicts and Disasters

Your profile

Master’s degree in social or political sciences, peace and conflict studies, social work or any other relevant domain Several years of expertise and practical experience in the areas of youth civic engagement and conflict transformation. Proven ability to work with young people Notions in organizational development and project development based on a solid conflict assessment Professional experience in fragile contexts and professioal experience in Africa; knowledge about Cameroon is an added value Partner oriented professional attitude and skills Strong analytical skills for understanding a complex culture and multilayered conflict lines Proven ability to work in a team, patience, flexibility, and high frustration tolerance Fluency in English and French
