securing new funding from USAID and US-based foundations to advance the mission of Action Against Hunger. This is a full-time position located in the Washington, DC office and will report to the Associate Director (AD), Business Development. As part of the Resource & Program Development Group, the BDC will work closely with the East Africa Regional Office and Haiti programs to support the full spectrum of the business development cycle. Because this is a new team, the BDC will have the unique opportunity to define and develop Action Against Hunger – USA’s approach to business development to improve overall resource mobilization.

KEY ACTIVITIES IN YOUR ROLE WILL INCLUDE

  • Working with the Associate Director to develop and monitor pre-positioning plans for each of our programs in East Africa and Haiti.
  • Researching, tracking, and analyzing new opportunities and our competitive position within the marketplace.
  • Serving as proposal coordinator (or other lead role in proposal development team).
  • Monitoring the proposal development processes to ensure timely submission of high-quality proposals that are responsive to donor requirements and Action Against Hunger’s technical standards.
  • Serving as co-writer on proposals, assisting with integrating inputs from staff and partners into a responsive, coherent proposal.
  • Preparing research and engagement tools for senior management to cultivate and strengthen relationships with institutional donors, private foundations, partner organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Developing a proposal development toolkit for kick off meetings, including the proposal development calendar; organizing and leading the kick-off meeting and all other preparatory meetings.
  • Communicating the AAH’s offerings and unique value proposition to prospective clients via phone, in-person meetings/presentations, networking, and through formal proposals.
  • Coordinating meeting schedules and times for BDT members, informing all relevant parties of when and where each meeting will be held and keep clear records of each decision that’s made.

DO YOU MEET THE PROFILE REQUIRED CRITERIA?

You’re a dedicated, experienced professional, passionate about humanitarian work, and have...

  • A bachelors or master’s degree
  • A minimum of 4 years of international development and experience supporting business development teams.
  • Experience with both USAID humanitarian and development programming, including RFAs, APS, and RFP funding mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of relevant institutional donor regulations, policies, procedures and priorities.
  • Experience working on teams to produce deliverables under tight deadlines and at exceptional quality.
  • Experience utilizing diverse, proactive strategies to competitively position the organization for new funding opportunities and productive institutional relationships.
  • Ability and willingness to travel overseas as needed, up to 25% of the time.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. Should be able to adapt communication style to suit different audiences.
  • Effective facilitation skills. Should be able to facilitate group discussions.
  • Technical knowledge of nutrition, health systems, food security and/or WASH programming (preferred).
  • Abilty to work flexible hours, including long hours to meet deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of French (desired not required).
