AIDA Executive Director

(International Position)

40 hrs per week – 2 Years (Renewable depending on Funding)

Based in Jerusalem 25%, with regular travel to Gaza required, with international travel as needed

The Role

The purpose of the AIDA Executive Director position is to lead AIDA and to manage its Secretariat, to deliver impact in accordance with AIDA’s annual plan and projects, mobilise appropriate resources for AIDA’s work and oversee expenditure, and implement the decisions of AIDA’s Executive Committee (ExCom).

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in INGO senior management roles in a humanitarian/recovery context; including as HoM/Country Director and/or Coordinator of an INGO forum.
  • Knowledge of principles of coordination and principles of advocacy .
  • Relevant university degree (advanced studies) in Management, Humanitarian or Development Studies, Policy, Political Sciences or other.
  • Experience in multi-sectorial response, major humanitarian emergencies and recovery contexts.
  • Experience working in complex and volatile contexts.
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.

Context/Specific skills, knowledge and experience:

  1. Sound operational INGO management experience and experience in humanitarian coordination.
  2. Significant, high-level policy, advocacy and inter-agency coordination experience and familiarity with global humanitarian and development coordination infrastructure and systems.
  3. Demonstrated representational and diplomatic experience with donor and diplomatic missions and host governments, with well-developed negotiation skills.
  4. Effective team, operational and budget management skills.
  5. Demonstrated capacity to manage risk, risk mitigation and management planning.
  6. Understanding of emergency preparedness and response, as well as organisational safety and security management.
  7. Experience in leading and developing tools and resources to support NGO Networks – national, joint and/or international.
  8. Sound knowledge of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, oPt aid architecture and NGO operations.
  9. Ability and willingness to travel regularly to Gaza and abroad.
  10. Arabic language skills are an advantage.
