**Terre des Hommes Netherlands (TdH NL) in Asia is looking for a full time Advisor on Child Exploitation, to be based in the Regional Office in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, with frequent travel within the region. Applicants wishing to be based out of other countries of TdH NL operation in the region will be considered.

Position in the organisation

The position is part of the Lobby and Expertise (L&E) team, that supports the development of our organisational (strategic) focus, programme themes, country programmes, institutional fundraising and the relation between these. The unit also supports and coordinates lobby and advocacy activities as well as research. The Advisor will report to the manager Lobby, Expertise and Programs and has no direct reports of its own.

About your department

The L&E team consists of 8 ambitious advisors with different backgrounds and expertise. They focus on the issue of child exploitation, with key programme themes centred around:

  1. The Worst Forms of Child Labour;

  2. Sexual Exploitation of Children (online and offline);

  3. Child Trafficking and Unsafe Migration.

  4. Child Abuse / Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights

About the role

TdH NL strives to develop new and innovative programming to address the complexity of child exploitation and the Advisor is expected to contribute significantly to this. The Advisor acts as a child protection expert for both internal and external bodies and is responsible for advising on all policy matters relating to child exploitation. The Advisor holds deep and up-to-date knowledge on child protection and children’s rights, through research and networking, and preferably holds extensive knowledge on (online) sexual exploitation of children, and child trafficking and unsafe migration. They will ensure all programming is of excellent technical quality and that all programmes contribute to TdH NL’ strategic objectives, global learning and advocacy. The post holder is expected to provide advice and support to programme staff and our partners. The post holder will be required to work collaboratively with other advisers in the team to deliver on the department goals.

Objective of the function

The Advisor is responsible for advising on child rights and child protection policy matters. To this end, the position holder acts as an expert contact point for both internal and external bodies.

As Advisor, you are part of the Lobby and Expertise team (L&E). The L&E team builds and shares evidence and supports policy and impactful practice to end child exploitation. Through research and evidence-building, lobby and advocacy the team aims to position TdH NL to leverage evidence in order to influence policy and practice and bring about systemic change. Furthermore, by driving capacity strengthening and learning within the organisation and providing technical support, the team collaborates on designing and implementing effective and scalable solutions.

Specific objectives:

  • To provide technical assistance and evidence­-based input for programme and proposal development, research and evaluations, and lobby and advocacy;

  • To realise a strong linkage between programme, country or thematic level outcomes, research and advocacy;

  • To act as the point of contact for substantive questions regarding (online) sexual exploitaiton of children, child trafficking and migration, and other core themes of TdH NL;

  • To provide training and build capacity of staff and partners on thematic issues, research, lobby and advocacy;

  • To build upon the profile of TdH NL as an expert on child exploitation, and in particular Sexual Exploitation of Children and/or Child Trafficking and Unsafe Migration in Asia, and the wider organisatoin by participating in relevant networks and presenting our work at relevant forums and conferences.

Job Level: D with a salary range of 3.053 - 4.153 euro, based on 40 hours a week

Contract Period: One year contract with a possibility of extension.
