WRI India, an independent charity legally registered as the India Resources Trust, provides objective information and practical proposals to foster environmentally sound and socially equitable development. Our work focuses on building sustainable and livable cities and working towards a low carbon economy. Through research, and recommendations, WRI India puts ideas into action to build transformative solutions to protect the earth, promote livelihoods, and enhance human well-being. The India Resources Trust has a license from WRI to use the trademark “WRI India”.

WRI India has the capacity to convene important partners, and create strategic partnerships with governments, business, foundations, civil society organizations, institutes and NGOs, to expand solutions that can bring game-changing results for the sustainable management of natural resources in India.

We are inspired by and associated with World Resources Institute (WRI), a global research organisation. Over 150 researchers are working with WRI India in our offices at Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Overview for Operations

The Operations team helps manage the everyday functions of the organization. They interact and work with multiple partners including Donors, Partners, Government agencies, Statutory bodies, Trustees, Vendors, and Consultants by providing support at all range of operational activities. The operations team is a core function and support all the program teams in planning and controlling costs, maximize efficiency and allocating resources without any hurdles, whereas the program could focus on developing high-quality research documents, plans and implement the program deliverable for the community at large. This is an important part of defining the operations department's objectives.

WRI operations team consists of multiple responsibilities such as Budget and Finance, Grants and Contracts, Legal Counsel, Accounting, Audit and General management. You will come under the purview of operations and each function lead reports to the Director Operations and Director Operations report to the CEO of the Organization. We manage our endowment, the contributions entrusted to us, and our facilities in ways that are following our values and advance our mission. We maintain strict parameters for risk management and internal financial controls to ensure that all contributions are managed following all the Regulatory and Funder requirements.

About your Role:

WRI is seeking a Staff Accountant in carrying out the listed responsibilities of the accounting department. You are well-versed in accounting principles and able to work with numbers. The goal is to contribute to the efficient operation of the department and help the WRI to be aware of its financial condition.

Working with a collaborative team, you will review accounting entries and determine the correct general ledger account, project codes, prepaid, fixed asset. Due to our organizational size and culture, you will allow the opportunity for you to train and learn in other areas of accounting. Success for you will encompass a combination of influence, driving innovation, and working well.

How your day will unfold:

· Update accounts payable and performs reconciliations

· Support the audit process

· Handle Petty Cash

· Resolve daily issues related to Accounts Payable inquiries

· Initiate the payments

· Checking staff expenses and coordination for correction

· Participate in month-end closing activities, including journal entries and other analysis

· Reconciliation of assigned GL accounts

· Any additional responsibilities set by Management

· Implement best practice processes to increase efficiency

· Compile data for compliances

· Obtain quotes and tenders from vendors and suppliers

· Calculate and compare costs for goods and services to maximize cost-effectiveness

· Manage and review service contracts to ensure facility management.

· Check completed work by contractors, consultants, vendors and any other party working with WRI

· Develop and implement cost reduction initiatives

· Handle insurance plans and service contracts

· Develop and implement cost reduction initiatives

· Managing hard copy filing as per the Internal control process set

· Vouching the correctness of any supporting or invoices received

Qualifications and Requirements we seek:

· B.com/M.com in Accounting experience and facilities management

· Working knowledge in SAP or Deltek or any other software-based accounting system other than tally will be an added advantage.

· Understanding of accounting principles.

· Knowledge of auditing practices and principles and make financial decisions with ease

· Self-initiative skill will be appreciated

· Demonstrated and trouble shooter

· Advanced proficiency in spreadsheets, Excel (Graphs, Marcos, and Pivot Tables) and MSOffice applications

· Working knowledge of procurement and contracts

· Sound knowledge of health, safety and environmental regulations

· Experience in construction, maintenance and all facets of facility operation

· Supervisory experience.

Start Date: At the earliest

Duration: 1 year (Extendable based on performance and project requirements)

Salary Range: INR 800000-900000
