The Green Climate Fund (GCF)—a critical element of the historic Paris Agreement—is the world’s largest climate fund mandated to support low-emission, climate-resilient development pathways. As an operating entity of the financial mechanism of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), GCF contributes to the goal of keeping an average global temperature rise well below two degrees Celsius.

The Fund is looking to revamp its public website in the coming years; therefore, it seeks to recruit a Website Information Architecture Consultant to help carry out the tasks, duties, and responsibilities, deliver the set milestones, and provide support to the Communications team as detailed below. The assignment is for an initial 120 days over a six-month period.

Role

The Website Information Architecture Consultant will be responsible for delivering a revised information architecture of the GCF website in preparation of its upcoming revamp. S/he will be instrumental in implementing the GCF Communications Strategy and Digital Strategy and help shape the public profile of the Fund.

The current GCF website is built in Drupal 7. GCF wishes to upgrade the site to Drupal 10. This role will contribute to shaping a new version of the website, in Drupal, that is cutting-edge, user-friendly, easy to navigate, innovative, and that has a strong visual presence which reflects the image and brand voice of the Fund across multi-channel platforms.

Duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Head of Communications, s/he will be responsible for:

  • Contributing to the ongoing content assessment report of the current GCF website.
  • Engaging with GCF staff in workshops/through surveys/discussion to discuss ideas for a refreshed site architecture and identify content needs, types and sources for the new website.
  • Mapping out a visitor’s journey through the GCF website.
  • Developing a revised information architecture according to the review findings and delivering it to inform the website revamp project. The new architecture shall:

    - Identify and respond to the agreed visitor’s journey through the website
    - Include a revised main navigation and sub-navigation;
    - Include a revised taxonomy for web content, documents, and content types
    - Accommodate the content growth produced by the organization for the next 5 years.

    • Working closely with the GCF communications team, including website and UX staff, designer and writers to help conceive, design the next version of the website.
    • Preparing status reports for the Head of Communications on the GCF website through analyses and summarization of progress, challenges, solutions, and targets.

      Required experience and qualifications

      • Relevant degree in related area: website development, content production, marketing, or a related social science;
      • Minimum of 7 years’ professional experience in leading major website development / renewal projects;
      • Experience in the construction and maintenance of complex document management systems that can comply with internationally-recognized audit standards;
      • Proven understanding of the concepts of developing engaging online user experiences, and web applications that facilitate stakeholder engagement;
      • Solid understanding of web design functionality, interaction, site architecture, user interfaces, and navigation across multiple platforms and devices;
      • Track record in creating solutions that make technical and complex information easily accessible through user-friendly web applications;
      • Thorough knowledge of industry-standard content management systems;
      • Experience in establishing strong working relationships with colleagues from different cultural backgrounds;
      • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential for this position; knowledge of another UN language an advantage.
