The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

CSIS seeks a Research Associate/Program Manager to join the Project on Prosperity and Development. The Research Associate/Program Manager serves as the primary researcher and writer on substantive projects and supports all administrative aspects of the Project on Prosperity and Development at CSIS. The Research Associate/Program Manager is expected to manage multiple current projects and has a diverse and extensive portfolio. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent research and writing skills and have experience in some aspects of global development policy. Responsibilities cross all program components, including project oversight, and written and verbal external and internal correspondences. The program seeks a leader, team player, and resourceful problem-solver for our highly collaborative and active team.

The minimum annual salary for this position is $60,000.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Intricately involved in each step of the process for the CSIS Ukraine Economic Reconstruction Commission.
o Organizes and attends meetings with high level members, develops an agenda, tracking invitations, provide logistical support, and tracking progress on the commission.
o Plays an integral role in carrying out the work of the Commission, which includes coordinating with other CSIS scholars and affiliates.
o Organizes and attends Commission working group meetings. Writes publications coming out of those meetings.
• Writes various publications including commentaries, policy briefs, and press releases.
• Contribute to business development efforts, and tracking efforts for potential funders.
o This includes organizing and sitting in on business development calls, drafting concept notes, and writing grant proposals.
• Conducts and manages a dynamic and extensive research portfolio of at least 3 individual projects, with minimal supervision by:
o Monitoring research developments on a continuous basis and preparing briefings and analysis for CSIS senior staff or external stakeholders.
o Analyzing developments in domestic and international policy as it relates to global development.
o Coordinating the design, layout, copyediting, and distribution of program publications. Includes editing and fact-checking program materials with a critical perspective and strong attention to detail.
• Performs minimal administrative support, including correspondence, phone, outreach, travel logistics, and other administrative tasks as needed.
• Occasionally willing and able to respond to special requests outside of office hours.


KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

• M.A/M.S. in public policy, economics, international relations, international development, public administration, or a related field.
• Prior professional experience in U.S. or global development policy, e.g., programs, U.S. government departments and agencies, Congress, outside stakeholders, bilateral relationships, and/or multilateral coordination platforms.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in research, writing, event planning, and administrative work.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
• Ability to work both independently and as a collaborative member of a small team, including working closely with a range of individuals with diverse interests, backgrounds, seniority, and dispositions.
• Comfortable working under tight deadlines and quick turnarounds.
• Sound judgment, maturity, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
• Strong ability to prepare for and execute high-level events.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills, including the ability to prioritize, track, and accomplish multiple tasks simultaneously in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including an ability to foster and manage effective relationships with a wide range of colleagues and partners including CSIS staff and individuals with diverse interests, backgrounds, and dispositions.

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Performances of duties require the use of hands and fingers to handle or feel. The job frequently requires ability to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
