Org. Setting and Reporting

The position is located in the United Nations Mission in Kosovo. The incumbent will report directly to the Head of the Office of Strategic Communications and Public Affairs (OSCPA).

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority and depending on location, the Public Information Officer may be responsible for the following duties • Produces or oversees production of short and long videos to showcase the work of the Mission and promote its priority areas, including proposing topics, undertaking research, determining appropriate medium; writes the content of video scripts; shoots and edits high quality, fast-paced short multimedia packages for use in digital platforms; • Prepares production and distribution plans for multimedia content; plans for and oversees budget allocation and administrative processes for production requirements; plans for and oversees the distribution of video materials and public information campaign materials including on the Mission’s social media platforms; • Ensures good management of film/video archives, and the proper safekeeping/preservation of historical visual materials; works closely with contractors and in-house IT services and Mission Support Division for problem-solving, as well as ongoing improvement efforts; • Takes high quality photos, edits photos and produces photo stories, when required; • Produces or oversees the production of graphic design requirements of the Office; produces infographics when required; • Prepares, on the basis of official UN documentation and other sources, initial drafts of reports, web stories and press releases, when required; • Initiates and sustains professional relationships with key constituencies. • Acts as focal point on specific issues, monitoring and reporting on developments, responding to inquiries, representing the office in meetings, acts as officer-in-charge in the absence of the Head of the section, etc.

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, multimedia production or related field.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, multimedia production or related area is required.
  • Experience in video production is required.
  • A minimum of one year experience at UN Peacekeeping is desirable.
  • Experience in managing audiovisual archives is desirable.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
  • For this position, fluency in English is required.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

• This position is temporarily available until 30 September 2021.
