Organizational Background

The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization with its headquarters in Vienna, Austria is the international organization setting up the global verification system foreseen under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which is the treaty banning any nuclear-weapon-test explosion or any other nuclear explosion. The Treaty provides for a global verification regime, including a network of 337 stations worldwide, a communications system, an international data centre and on-site inspections to monitor compliance.

Organizational Setting

This position is located in the Public Information Section, Legal and External Relations Division (LEG).

Reporting Lines

Under the direct supervision of the Chief, Public Information Section, to:

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Increase search engine optimization for newly relaunched PTS corporate website;
  2. Suggest improvements and enhancements to the website and be focal point for website vendor in troubleshooting and addressing website issues, performance and maintenance;
  3. Conduct data and audience analysis for social media platforms used by CTBTO (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Flickr) to gather audience insights, determine optimal content and ideal posting times for each platform;
  4. Devise social media strategies and liaise with relevant stakeholders to create social media content that supports the CTBTO Medium Term Strategy and helps build brand awareness and visibility;
  5. Draft concepts for a diverse range of digital communications products in support of PTS objectives;
  6. Prepare or oversee preparation of digital products such as social media animations, videos, and graphics, as well as interactive presentations, and edit drafts of such content prepared by junior staff/interns;
  7. Stay abreast of latest developments and best practices in digital communications and suggest innovative solutions to maximize reach via digital channels;
  8. Provide recommendations to relevant stakeholders on best approaches to take to maximize effectiveness of digital communications;
  9. Evaluate results and impact of digital communications activities and report on developments, trends, and attitudes regarding the PTS;
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

    Education

    • University degree in communication, journalism, international relations, or related field.

      Work Experience and Qualifications

      • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, or related field is required.
      • Experience in website and social media audience analysis and insights is required.
      • Experience developing and implementing digital communications strategies is required.
      • Experience in search engine optimization for websites is required.
      • Experience updating content on Drupal-based websites is desirable.
      • Experience in monitoring and evaluating results of communications outreach is desirable.

        Languages

        • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential;
        • Knowledge of other official CTBTO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is desirable.

            Remuneration

            CTBTO offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in accordance with the policies of the International Civil Service Commission. The salary offered may be subject to deductions to the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund and/or Health Insurance Scheme.

            Short Term Appointments shall initially be made under a contract for a period not to exceed 364 days,subject to the successful completion of the probation period set forth in the Letter of Appointment.
