The Austrian Study Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution (ASPR) is an independent, nonprofit, and non-partisan organisation. The ASPR seeks a PROJECT MANAGER / PEACEBUILDING EXPERT for East Africa to join its conflict transformation team for the implementation of conflict transformation and HDP Nexus projects in South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda.
The Project Manager / Peacebuilding Expert will be responsible for:

• coordinating and managing the inception and implementation of the ASPR’s activities in dialogue and HDP Nexus projects in South Sudan/Uganda and Sudan,

• coordinating implementation of the project with the ASPR senior experts, consultants, and funding institutions, and ensuring responsible and efficient implementation of the work and related resources,

• supervising implementing project partners in the project areas, • organise and participate in conflict transformation activities (such as dialogue platforms and workshops),

• maintaining and developing relationships with the ASPR’s partners and networks in East Africa,

• participating in the development of the further ASPR conflict transformation projects and cross-cutting activities,

• reporting and project monitoring in accordance with the guidelines of the funding institutions,

• ensuring that projects are implemented according to budgets, Logframes, deliverables, and donor requirements,

• the position’s working language is English.

Person specifications:

• Master’s degree in a relevant field (essential),

• five years of work experience in/with fragile and conflict affected states as humanitarian, development, peacebuilding, and/or research practitioner (essential),

• two years of practical experience in working on peacebuilding (essential),

• practical experience in working with donor organisations such as Logframe handling, budgeting, monitoring, reporting (essential),

• two years of project management experience (essential),

• good understanding of the East African context, in particular South Sudan, Sudan, and Northern Uganda (essential),

• C2 skills in English, spoken and written (essential), knowledge of German and Arabic (desirable),

• excellent teamworking skills and ability to work under pressure (essential),

• ability to travel to the region as per project requirements (essential),

• practical experience in conflict transformation and peacebuilding activities (desirable),

• established networks in East Africa (desirable),

• experience in project communication and fundraising (desirable).

The Project Manager will report to the ASPR director and an ASPR senior peacebuilding expert (as per project requirements). The position is preferably based in Vienna, Austria, for which EU citizenship or a valid work permit for Austria is prerequisite. Alternative arrangements, however, may be made in accordance with the ASPR. The position is two-year fixed term with the possibility of extension.
