Department Sustainable Markets (SM) - The Sustainable Markets Pillar, one of three Pact Pillars which also includes Health and Governance Pillars, covers four of Pact's impact areas (Energy, Environment, Extractives and Livelihoods). This Pillar has a range of world-leading initiatives for responsible mineral sourcing, improved energy access, green finance, livelihoods and natural resource management.

Position Overview

The ISMR Pilot Project Coordinator will support the daily coordination of project activities in accordance with Pact’s policies and procedures, advise on technical aspects, and coordinate internal and external stakeholder communications. Reporting directly to both the ISMR Team Leader (Project Manager) and Program Director, the Coordinator will provide support across project planning and implementation, review and editing of materials, technical inputs, reporting, and communications. They should have proven report writing and editing experience, demonstrable qualitative analytical experience, project coordination experience or transferable skills, and proven knowledge and understanding of international development. Knowledge and experience of the ASM sector, large-scale mining, and/or renewable energy and lighting markets is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Project coordination

  • Report to and support the Team Leader (Project Manager), and Project Director with project-related tasks as agreed.
  • Coordinate review, updating, and support implementation of project workplan.
  • Coordinate weekly project team calls, including note taking and follow-up.
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders, including project advisory committee, scheduling meetings and providing written and verbal updates.
  • Support Team Leader (Project Manager) with written mid and end of project technical and financial reporting.
  • Support individual project team members with work planning and implementation, backstopping, capacity development, and knowledge and skills transfer as needed.

    Technical inputs

    • Advise on and support on technical aspects of project activities such as desk research, fieldwork planning, qualitative and quantitative data coding and analysis pertaining to ASM, lighting, and energy access.
    • Support development of stakeholder training materials.
    • Review, edit, and quality-assure written outputs and materials.
    • Support the development and writing of additional funding proposals.
    • Support organization and coordination of the end of Phase 2 Pilot workshop.

      Project communications (external)

      • Draft, coordinate review, and finalize external communications materials such as narrative reports, policy briefs, project summaries, briefing notes, slide decks, story and picture telling, future website content.
      • Draft materials for stakeholder visits, including end of Phase 2 Pilot workshop.

        Basic Requirements

        • Master's degree or bachelor's degree with at least two years (2+) relevant work experience
        • Proven excellent writing, editing, formatting skills, producing fully formatted academic-quality narrative reports, policy briefs, project summaries, briefing notes, slide decks, or similar.
        • Full English fluency, written and verbal, is required.
        • Excellent Word, PowerPoint, and Excel skills.
        • Highly organized, self-motivated, and proactive communicator.

          Preferred Qualifications

          • Knowledge and experience of environmental, social, and governance issues and sustainable development of artisanal and small-scale mining and responsible mineral supply chains, including international frameworks and agreements.
          • Undertaking community development projects in a developing country context is desirable, and preferably with mining communities.
          • French speaking desirable.
