ISD is seeking an experienced Educator to deliver impactful training as part of our ambitious Business Council for Democracy (BC4D) programme. This project, started in 2020, offers a pioneering internet citizenship curriculum to adults across Germany in order to build reliance against online harm and promote responsible and safe internet usage.

The Educator will work in a close-knit programme team to help with the design, implementation and teaching of the BC4D curriculum to an adult audience. They will be responsible for ensuring the course proceeds on schedule and classes are given to a high standard. They will manage key relationships with project partners and other stakeholders, as well as ensuring smooth communication with the co-founders of the initiative (Gemeinnützige Hertie Stiftung and the Robert Bosch Stiftung).

Key Responsibilities include:

Curriculum development and instruction

  1. With ISD colleagues, create a curriculum for an adult audience that deepens digital media literacy at scale and ensures a well-informed approach to online harms, with the aim to create resilience against online hate, manipulation and mis- and disinformation such as conspiracy theories.

  2. Update the curriculum as needed, provide input for the development of new modules, and drive the development of such content from inception to completion as needed.

  3. Ensure the course schedule is implemented and that all assigned classes are delivered to a high standard.

  4. Participate in the evaluation of courses as requested.

Stakeholder engagement

  1. Manage relationships with project partners and employers in order to ensure that existing relationships grow and that new relationships flourish.

  2. Proactively support the ISD team in outreach to potential initiative members, including through producing materials, writing policy briefings and arranging events.

  3. Be available for media requests or public speaking events as needed.

Project management

  1. Maintain the project budget.

  2. Ensure smooth communication between the ISD team and the founders of the initiative (Gemeinnützige Hertie Stiftung and the Robert Bosch Stiftung).

The ideal candidate will have a strong subject-matter understanding of online harms and their impact on democracy, and will have proven experience in delivering training to adult participants – ideally including workshops and public speaking. They will also have outstanding communication skills in German, and ideally a strong proficiency in English.
