Job Purpose and Organizational Context
For over 20 years, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Environment Area has played a pivotal role in promoting and strengthening the environmental dimension in Argentina. With a strategic approach, it has collaborated with various government entities, non-governmental organizations, the private sector, and other relevant stakeholders to address the country's environmental challenges. Thus, UNDP in Argentina has actively promoted the inclusion of the environmental dimension in the development process, driving projects that not only seek to preserve the environment but also have a positive impact on poverty alleviation, employment development, and the improvement of sustainable living conditions. These initiatives have comprehensively addressed environmental challenges, contributing to the well-being of communities and strengthening resilience to future challenges. To achieve this, the Area concentrates its efforts on the following dimensions: biodiversity, climate change, energy, management of chemicals and pollutants, as well as disaster risk management and sustainable finance.
In this way, through projects and initiatives funded by international cooperation funds, the pillars of the triple crisis (biodiversity loss, climate change, and pollution) have been addressed with initiatives yielding concrete results in terms of compliance with the international climate change agenda, biodiversity management, energy and chemicals, as well as mechanisms for mobilizing non-reimbursable funds to be implemented in the country. In this regard, actions have been developed to support the conservation of ecosystems, improve the implementation of policies for emission reduction and adaptation to climate change, as well as the creation of renewable energies, facilitate waste reduction, and promote the safe management of chemicals, fulfilling the international commitments assumed by the Argentine Republic. These initiatives take into account the interests and needs of the affected communities, promoting and respecting the principles of human rights, good governance, and citizen participation.
