Purpose of Job

Sustainability reporting specialist reporting to the Director of Financial Control. Financial Control encompasses the Bank’s three accounting teams who, between them, maintain the financial records for both the Bank, including Treasury, and the Donor Funds administrated by the Bank. This person sits apart from these teams with a specialist focus on audited sustainability reporting.

Sustainability reporting standards have been published for the first time in 2023. In the wider market it is anticipated that institutions will begin reporting in line with the new standards in 2025 or earlier. This role is pivotal in building EBRD’s capacity for reporting in line with the new standards, particularly ISSB.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with other departments to build internal capabilities in controlling and retaining sustainability related data.
  • Building control processes from scratch that will meet or exceed audit standards.
  • Significant role in team’s preparation of ISSB-compliant financial reporting subject to external audit, involving the review of work performed by other departments and the responsibility for initial drafting of Finance sections as required.
  • Assesses the impact of the latest sustainability reporting standards on the Bank to ensure compliance
  • Ensures the Bank’s sustainability reporting policies are up-to-date and consistent with the regulatory framework adopted by the Bank
  • Deputises for the Director on sustainability reporting matters as required
  • Regular review of procedures, including in other departments, to ensure that data relevant to sustainability is sourced in a reliable and efficient manner
  • Review and provide comment on sustainability reporting inputs to ensure accuracy
  • Liaises with internal and external auditors and responds to queries
  • Helps ensure the team meets all sustainability reporting deliverables and deadlines
  • Champion and role model the Bank’s Behavioural Competencies and Corporate Behaviours, ensuring adherence within the team(s) so that the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct are exhibited at all times

    Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

    • Educated to degree level
    • Ideally ACA qualified or equivalent
    • Fluent English language skills, both verbal and written
    • Significant experience of sustainability reporting highly desirable
    • Capacity to work independently on complex projects
    • At least one of statutory financial accounts preparation / audit experience / experience of designing and maintaining effective control environments essential
    • Strong numerical and financial skills with the ability to interpret financial information
    • Strong understanding of financial services industry / development banking
    • Good knowledge of the sustainability reporting regulatory standards, particularly ISSB.
    • Strong computer skills
