About this position:

The aim of this consultancy is to provide support to the Energy Division in the preparation, design and approval process of its operations, such as loans, investment grants and Technical Cooperations (TCs) in the energy sector. The consultant will also support in conducting research in the energy sector and procuring and supervising studies, gathering, and analyzing data, and drafting documents needed to prepare and execute operations.

The Energy Division (ENE) of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is a functional division within the Infrastructure and Energy Sector (INE), under the Vice‑Presidency of Sectors and Knowledge. ENE is responsible for the development of loans with sovereign guarantee, non-reimbursable technical cooperation’s, including technical, economic, regulatory, identification analysis and the preparation of programs, projects, studies, and sectoral notes in the energy sector.

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborate in the identification and preparation of operations prepared by INE/ENE (such as loans, investment grants and TCs.
  • Provide technical advice to energy operations and energy-related operations and perform quality control reviews of energy operational documents for accuracy, clarity, conciseness, and consistency.
  • Participate in the Quality Risk Review of INE/ENE operations, such as briefings, meetings, negotiations, and missions, and prepare minutes and briefs on project status.
  • Collaborate in the application of related operations in terms of environmental and processing policies and ensure energy projects prepared are consistent and in compliance with standards; assist in the preparation of mid-term and final reports of the execution of related Projects.
  • Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of project results and outcomes.
  • Update schedules and progress reports, including updating project information within IDB’s operational systems.
  • Coordinate calls for proposals for energy sector studies, draft Terms of Reference, review proposals, and assist in contract management of consultancies.
  • Collaborate in other related activities as requested.

    What you'll need:

    • Education: Master´s degree in economics, renewable energy or related field. Background in electrical or mechanical engineering, fluid mechanics, chemical engineering, economics, finance, business administration, environmental management or related area.
    • Experience: At least five (5) years of relevant professional experience. Experience within the IDB or other international institutions is desirable.
    • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.
