OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMMEThe aim of the Medical Centre is to provide medical and nursing care to staff of the IST and WHO Country Office, including medical evacuation and other medical services.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIESManage the daily operations of the Medical Unit in the WCO (both administrative and clinically) and provide support to the Regional Staff Physician in the execution of his responsibilities;Responsible for ordering, safe keeping, inventory of drugs and medical equipment in the Medical Unit;Provide the necessary primary nursing care to WHO Staff and their dependants including taking appropriate action in cases of emergency;Liaise with the appropriate local health service providers and attending Doctors whenever a Staff member or dependant is hospitalized;Carry out various inoculations, vaccinations, examinations, dressings etc.;Co-ordinate medical evacuation in conjunction with the Administrative Officer /Nurse (AON/ AFRO) Brazzaville;Assist prospective candidates and Staff members to undergo Entry medical and Periodic medical examinations respectively;Provide health education, counselling and treatment on HIV and AIDS;Maintain all confidential medical files for Staff in the IST and WHO Country Office;Is responsible for initiating correspondences with:--> The Regional Staff Physician and AON/AFRO on issues pertaining to Medical travel under Staff rule 820.2.8;--> HRM Staff in connection with sick leave, maternity leave, accidents on duty, and completion of WHO 417, 418 & 800;--> Finance Staff in connection with letters of guarantee for admission to hospital and the related medical bills.Achievement activities include: A smooth running of the Medical Centre; Efficient medical and nursing services to all IST and WCO staff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EducationEssential: Degree in Nursing or equivalent in specialized nursing training, plus legal registration as a Nurse with a recognized Nursing Council.
Desirable: Additional experience in emergency medical care, occupational medicine as well as Nursing administration and/or training in counselling is an added asset.

ExperienceEssential: 2 years of practical experience as a Nurse in medical and surgical wards with experience in Emergency medical care and also in an administrative position.
Desirable: Experience at international level and a Counselling certificate would be an added advantage.

SkillsUpdated knowledge in clinical nursing and a wide experience in administrative procedures related to the position i.e. Planning, organizing, and coordinating the activities of the Medical Unit and being able to make independent decisions in cases of emergency;Ability to establish priority and to plan and coordinate own work plan;Good interpersonal relationship and being able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and accountability.

REMUNERATIONRemuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at XAF 23,673,000 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
