About this position

We are looking for a specialist to contribute to the Migration Unit in the origination, design, preparation, implementation, and monitoring of Bank operations. You will lead strategic dialogues with governments regarding migration challenges. Additionally, you will provide inputs for regional/national policy dialogues, promote regional partnership initiatives to generate migration-related public goods, and propose topics for the capacity building and training program with the highest quality standards. Also, as part of the operations activities, you will generate knowledge in collaboration with other Bank units.

Our Migration Unit reports to the Manager of the Social Sector (SCL). We support migration-receiving countries, countries of destination, returnee migrants, and host communities through lending operations, regional, subregional, and national dialogues, regional cooperation to generate public goods, capacity building, and training, and applied research.

We work in coordination with all the relevant Bank units to deploy the Bank instruments to achieve the requisite efficiency and effectiveness to position the Bank as a relevant institution to support both migrants and their respective receiving communities to support inclusive development.

What you’ll do:

Manage projects related to the origination, design, and preparation of Bank operations. Coordinate the execution, monitoring, and evaluation of operations for which the IDB has approved financing. Lead or participate in groundbreaking research on migrations topics. Contribute to Bank teams' mainstreaming of migration topics in operational, analytical, and strategic activities (including country strategies, country development challenges, loans, policy dialogues, events, and knowledge initiatives). Collaborate with and provide input to the activities of the IDB Invest and IDB Lab. Engage in policy dialogue with Government authorities and development partners based on your proven knowledge of the topics, development challenges of client countries, and IDB policies, strategies, and guidelines. Identify and develop opportunities with regional key stakeholders to act together in getting new resources and in acting coordinated in regional platforms and other relevant scenarios. Share and disseminate economic/sector knowledge and learning tools to improve the IDB's relevance to borrowing countries and the region. Build networks and actively engage with migrations in other multilateral and bilateral institutions, academic institutions, think tanks, NGOs, and professional bodies to promote cooperative research initiatives. Work under the moderate supervision of others. Provide technical guidance to more junior staff.

What you'll need

Education: You hold a master’s degree in social sciences, applied economics, public policy, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred). Experience: You have at least 5 years of relevant and substantive development policy and operational experience, preferably including in migration issues. Languages: You are proficient in Spanish and English. Your knowledge of Portuguese or French would be a plus.

Requirements

Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents. Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
