Scope of role:

• Manage delivery of VSO media strategy in UK and international markets. Plan, implement and evaluate integrated media campaigns around VSO’s position as the leading development organization working through volunteering.

• Research, write media briefs and pitch key projects around livelihoods, education and health.

• Develop and maintain relationships with key journalists.

• Proactively research, compile and edit thought leadership and opinion pieces on specific areas of VSO’s work.

• Collaborate with Business Pursuits colleagues to identify where further media coverage is beneficial to attract and engage new potential donors. This may include raising the organisation’s profile in regions where we are delivering change (West, East, Southern Africa, Asia and South-East Asia). Additionally, the organisation’s profile will be raised by increasing visibility in international markets that matter to funders.

• Where requested contribute to donor engagement strategy and practice area communications strategies.

• Support and at times lead reputation and crisis communications management, including monitoring the media landscape to anticipate potential issues.

• Support wider organisation in delivering media activity in support of key moments, ensuring an integrated approach to content planning. Work defined areas of work around the education, livelihoods and health practice area communications strategies, including developing strategies around key areas of work and messaging.
