Organizational Background

The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization with its headquarters in Vienna, Austria is the international organization setting up the global verification system foreseen under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which is the treaty banning any nuclear-weapon-test explosion or any other nuclear explosion. The Treaty provides for a global verification regime, including a network of 337 stations worldwide, a communications system, an international data centre and on-site inspections to monitor compliance.

Organizational Setting

This position is located in the International Monitoring Systems (IMS) Division, that applies engineering and science to develop, instantiate, and to operate measurement stations around the world, as well as to receive, process and disseminate the data collected by these stations as well as related analysis products.

This position is located in the CTBTO Technology Support and Training Center (Seibersdorf).

Reporting Lines

Under the supervision of the Head, Technology Support and Training Centre (TeST Centre), to:

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist technical staff in warehouse activities by preparing, organizing, packing, labelling, shipping (including country specific documentation) and storing of equipment; Process shipments to/from suppliers, CTBTO facilities and events, ensuring timely and compliant inbound and outbound shipments and maintenance of customs relevant information; Draft requests for quotations to shipping companies and routine correspondence pertaining to shipment of equipment, including donation letters, proforma invoices, customs letters, customs declarations and packing lists; Compile and maintain technical and financial information and documentation, points of contact and related data; populate and update the relevant databases with technical information; Ensure the availability of consumables and stocks needed in support of the warehouse, shipping and material handling operations; Provide support to PTS staff responsible for asset management through tracking relevant information and status changes; update goods management databases accordingly; Assist in the planning and -processing budget and procurement related tasks (such as purchase orders, justifications, etc.); Assist in contract management; Assist in the collection of relevant (technical) data inputs and assist in administering the asset management and other databases in SAP; Assist in the organization and administration of trainings, tests, exercises and other events organized by the technical divisions at the TeST Center and CTBTO Headquarters; Provide support and participate, as requested, in training, tests and exercises organized by the CTBTO technical divisions at the TeST Center, CTBTO Headquarters, or in the field, which could be in remote areas, at short notice and, if necessary, for lengthy periods; Provide support and technical assistance related to the facility management and day-to-day operation of the TeST Center; Transport equipment and personnel between facilities and other locations as requested; Assist in cleaning and reconditioning of equipment and facilities as required; Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

Completed secondary education; technical training in machinery, logistics or a related field; training beyond high school in a field relevant to the work would be an asset;

Work Experience and Qualifications

At least three (3) years of relevant work experience in logistics or in a closely related field; Good knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential; Driving license category B is essential; Forklift truck license is desirable; Ability to undertake manual and physically demanding material handling tasks; Accuracy and ability to pay attention to detail, and to follow written procedures;

Languages

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential. Fluency in oral and written German would be an asset. Knowledge of other official CTBTO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is desirable.

CTBTO offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in accordance with the policies of the International Civil Service Commission. The salary offered may be subject to deductions to the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund and/or Health Insurance Scheme.
