Terms of ReferenceThe incumbent is a member of the Protection Team and will work under the direct supervision of the Legal Associate. The Legal Intern is responsible for supporting all day-to-day activities related to the timely and effective protection responses to the needs of asylum-seekers and refugees.

The Legal Intern is also responsible for less complex legal research, analysis and drafting. He/she is expected to provide administrative support with the capacity building activities for local authorities in the area of refugee protection under supervision, and where needed, support with coordinating activities with selected partner organizations. The Legal Intern also provides support where necessary to the Registration Team with registration and documentation related activities.

Minimum qualifications required:

In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

a. Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying for an internship with UNHCR) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO;
b. Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR; and
c. Not have immediate relatives (father, mother, brother, or sister) working for UNHCR as a staff member on any contract type or as an affiliate at the time of application.
