Within GIZ, the department International Services (GIZ InS) is in charge of clients such as intergovernmental organisations, development banks, governments and private companies. In implementing projects for this broad range of clients, InS follows the GIZ mission of sustainable development for a liveable future. We offer our clients highly competent and efficient teams of German, international and local professionals in more than 120 countries.

Our Private Sector Clients team works at the dynamic interface between the private sector and international cooperation. We support companies in the process of implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) worldwide with a focus on Africa, Asia, and Latin America. In doing so, we scale international cooperation solutions that have proven successful or test innovative approaches that are familiar to us in local contexts. We offer companies individual advice, from the idea to the conception, and project management up to the proof of measurable results and effects. Our portfolio includes projects in the agricultural, mining, forestry, education, and healthcare sectors, as well as waste management with a growing focus on circular economy approaches. Our clients come from the food, retail, automotive, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries.

We are looking for a Junior Project Manager based in Eschborn, Germany, to further strengthen our Private Sector Clients team.

Your tasks

You will participate in the acquisition, development, and implementation of projects for private sector companies to implement their sustainability strategies and the sustainable development goals. In close exchange with business clients and the respective specialist departments within GIZ, you will contribute to developing tailor-made service offers with a high impact potential.

You will work in close coordination with the (Senior) Project Managers of the team. The scope of your responsibility will gradually increase. Your tasks will include the following:

Trend scouting: you research current trends in sustainable development and corporate social responsibility and analyse their business relevance. Business development: you support the lead generation and networking with current and potential clients as well as the entire path to successful project acquisition, including the preparation of project proposals and client meetings. Project implementation: you support both project management in headquarters as well as the teams on site to ensure project success.

Your profile

Master’s level university degree in a field relevant to sustainable development, such as environmental science, agricultural science, engineering, economics or similar. Initial professional experience (e.g. acquired through internships) in sustainability projects, preferably with private sector companies (ideally large multi-national corporations). Strong and demonstrable interest in current trends and developments of sustainable development. High intrinsic motivation for sustainability and international cooperation. High analytical skills, ability to perform in high-paced environments and a team player attitude. Practical and problem-solving orientated mindset. Business acumen and entrepreneurial mindset. Excellent communication and presentation skills. International experience, including developing and/or middle-income countries. Willingness to take on frequent international business trips. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, in particular Excel and PowerPoint. Full fluency in English is an essential requirement. Other language skills, especially in German, French and/or Spanish, will be considered as assets.
