ABOUT DIÁLOGO INTERCULTURAL MEXICANO A.C.

Diálogo Intercultural Mexicano A.C. (DIME) is a humanitarian, neutral, secular and non-profit Mexican civil society organization that creates higher education opportunities for young refugees and displaced people from around the world.

Since 2015, DIME has consolidated a successful model in the reception and integration of refugees to the higher education system in Mexico. Since then, the organization has welcomed refugee students from Middle Eastern countries (Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria) as well as from the Latin American region (Venezuela, Honduras, Nicaragua, and more).

Today, DIME implements 5 programs: the Habesha Education Program (Habesha Project and Habesha Americas Project), Habesha Media, the Welcoming Universities Communities Program and the U.S. Mexico Border Legal Clinic Program. All projects are aimed at creating new life opportunities for (young) refugees and at generating positive change within Mexican society, towards the integration of the refugee community.

ABOUT THE POSITION

DIME’s internship program is recruiting interns with different profiles to support the team in different areas of the organization. The applicants will be matched to the area based on their motivations, interests, previous experiences, academic background and skills. For this application round, we are specifically looking for individuals who can assist in management, communication, project development, and project implementation.

Job Specifications: Full-time. In the city of Aguascalientes, Mexico. No salary, but small compensation and housing including services granted.

Work experience: Work, volunteer or internship experience in areas related to migration, human rights or vulnerable populations is desirable.

Studies: Bachelor’s degree completed or currently a student in International Relations, Political Science, Communication, Social Work, or related studies. Master’s degree is desirable.

Language: Proficient in Spanish and/or English, or good command of oral, written and reading comprehension skills in either one of the two or both.

Computer skills: Excellent domain of Microsoft Office and Google Drive tools.

General tasks may include:

  • Research,
  • Writing reports,

  • Donor Relations,
  • Schedule meetings,
  • Note-taking during meetings,
  • Organization of events.

More specifically, responsibilities will be related to the specific area of the internship.

Management:

  • Attend internal and external meetings to take notes.
  • Arrange meetings and update the agenda of the Director of the organization.
  • Create internal reports, such as the monthly reports, mission and event reports, as well as organizing the report database.

Project Development:

  • Identify relevant stakeholders, potential allies, forums and events.
  • Assist in the production of material for project development (e.g. proposals, manuals, budgets, project brochures, and formats).
  • Carry out research and gather information on matters related to refugee issues, UNHCR, foundations, specific organizations, etc.
  • Assist in activities related to the monitoring and evaluation of DIMA projects as well as in the writing of narrative and financial reports for donors.

Communication:

  • Generate various audiovisual products (sensibilization videos, podcasts, reports, documentaries, etc.) and be involved in planification, shooting, production and post-production and editing phases.
  • Produce photography and/or audiovisual products for the documentation and sharing of activities and events implemented by DIME on social media.
  • Assist the Creative Director in the realization of various drawing products.

Programs Area:

  • Assist the area in organizing events and activities with students.
  • Produce and/or update documents (e.g. guidelines, brochures, tables) for the implementation of different projects.
  • Participate in meetings with multiple stakeholders and donors who oversee the program's implementation.

Evaluations: This position is subject to mid-term performance review.
