Work LocationVienna HQ Expected duration1.10.24-31.03.25 (6 months) Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Research and Knowledge Production Section is responsible for the production of UNODC’s flagship report, the World Drug Report (WDR). The World Drug Report is an annual publication, which aims to improve the understanding of the world drug problem and to contribute towards fostering greater international cooperation for countering its effect on health, governance and security. Each year the Report’s thematic chapters provide an overview of the world drug situation with regard to the illicit supply and use of drugs. Several thematic chapters examine critical areas of emerging research and interest to drug policy and member states. The intern will work under the direct supervision of Professional staff of the Section. The internship is located in the Research and Knowledge Production, Research and Trend Analysis Branch, Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna (Austria). The intern will support the Research team for the World Drug Report, with the following tasks: • Collect information based on review of scientific and grey literature on different research topics and sections related to drug use, manufacturing and trafficking at different levels (country, regional and international). • Compile and summarize the information based on literature review related to the research topics/areas assigned. • Assist with reference management and formatting for written outputs. • Assist in presenting the compiled data in graphs and tables. • Produce information output by designing visual content for digital application (e.g., infographics). The internship is UNPAID and interns work five days per week (full time - 40 hours). For more information on UNODC, please visit the following website: www.unodc.org Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). The applicant may preferably be enrolled in public health, pharmacy, sociology, political science, criminology or a related field, with a focus of studies on drug policy. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
