Do you want to play a key role in an organisation which stands up for children? Join us as a Health Adviser in our Global Policy, Advocacy and Research department in our Global Policy, Advocacy and Research department and work to influence key global and national policy makers to achieve policy and system change, with a particular focus on reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health.

In our Advocacy and Policy department, we fight for children every single day. We drive political agendas at national and global levels. We integrate lobbying, policy, research and campaigning into one agile, powerful engine for change. We go the extra mile - and we don’t rest until the work is done.

As a Health Adviser you will directly impact on Save the Children’s Survive Breakthrough which aims to ensure that no child dies before their fifth birthday by 2030. You will support Save the Children UK, country offices and partners to implement advocacy strategies and develop evidence which will mobilise key decision makers. You will develop and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, building strong working relationships with partners and advocacy targets. In addition you will:

  • Support advocacy strategies in your thematic/technical area with high-quality work to support advocacy in countries, at global level and in the UK
  • Build strong relationships with our country programmes and other colleagues across our global movement to ensure that national-level advocacy work is delivered and informs international debates and decision-makers
  • Contribute to the success of SCUK’s mission teams, by providing resource and policy, advocacy and research expertise to missions as required
  • Ensure senior colleagues are up-to-speed on the latest policy developments and debates and identify influencing opportunities
  • Write advocacy briefings, externally published articles and blogs, as well as assist in the drafting of press releases, Q&As and opinion piece.

To be successful you will have significant knowledge and awareness of key global health issues, with a particular focus on reproductive, maternal, newborn, child health and universal health coverage. An excellent networker and communicator, you will have a proven track record in policy and advocacy, as well as experience of participating in coalitions and working with civil society actors to deliver change. Additionally, you will have:

  • Good knowledge of human rights, international relations, political analysis and the international humanitarian system
  • The ability and willingness to travel for up to six weeks per year
  • A commitment to Save the Children UK’s goals, mission, values and approach
  • The ability to operate within a predominantly self-servicing administrative environment.
