About the Program:
WRI’s Gender Equity Practice (GEP) within the Equity Center aims to reduce gender and social inequalities for the improved well-being of people and the environment. The GEP is laying the foundation of capacity across the institute to shift the practices of funders and implementers to reflect a deep understanding of gender and social issues and what is needed to address them through environmental conservation and climate actions. The GEP seeks an intern to provide support on capacity building and communications to strengthen the integration of gender and social equity considerations across WRI’s work. This position is hybrid and will require a few days per week in our Washington DC office. What you will do: In this role you will:
Develop talking points on equity within WRI program sectors for leadership to use for external events. Develop case studies of WRI projects that are integrating equity for internal learning purposes. Compile resources on equity within WRI sectors to add to learning guides for colleagues. Prepare the GSE monthly newsletter. Assist with internal learning exchanges, including our quarterly ‘reflect on equity’ sessions and bi-monthly equity reading circles. You will be supported by the team lead, the learning manager, and a research associate who all collaborate to support and promote the integration of equity considerations across the work of the institute. You will report to Natalie Elwell, the Director of the Gender Equity Practice. Internship Learning Outcomes: Through this internship you will:
Build knowledge on the linkages between gender and social equity and environmental issues, particularly challenges and opportunities for strengthening the focus on equitable outcomes.Learn about leveraging internal communications and learning strategies to influence change within an institution.Experience working in an environment that demands flexibility and efficient use of time.Gain in-depth knowledge of equity, gender, and poverty issues in the environment and international development fields.Learn about the importance of internal communications and learning strategies to build and maintain staff knowledge of gender and social equity issues.Gain experience in collaborating across operational and technical functions of an organization.Have the opportunity to maximize your learning opportunities across WRI by participating in seminars and presentations offered by a wide range of programs, centers, and initiatives within WRI.What you will need:
This opportunity is part of WRI’s Dream Green program, which is an institutionally funded internship program to increase representation among Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC). To qualify for WRI's Dream Green program, the intern must be a BIPOC student.Bachelor’s degree in related field.Academic and/or professional experience in international development, environmental studies, gender, equity, and social justice causes.Demonstrable interest in issues of gender, poverty, and/or social equity, preferably in WRI’s core areas of work (Food, Forests, Water, Oceans, Cities, Climate, and Energy).Compensation The pay for this internship opportunity is $20 for undergrads; $22 for graduates and $24 for PhD.
