In order to strengthen gender approaches in programming, we are looking for an employee at our location in Bonn, Germany, with an employment volume of 40 hours per week, with immediate effect as a

Gender adviser (f/m/d)

with a focus on gender in emergencies

(temporarily limited to 2 years)

Objective:

CARE Germany is seeking a passionate and experienced gender advisor for its international programme department. The main objective of the gender adviser is to increase gender transformative programming through a combined approach of crosscutting and standalone work. This is a newly created role which allows the job holder to actively shape ways of working. CARE Germany’s programme footprint is 60% humanitarian, reason why this will be one of the core approaches to focus on.

Responsibilities:

Ensure the integration of gender equality in the program management cycle (50%)

  • Provide technical support to CARE Germany Desk Officers and Country offices on gender responsive programming, with a focus on program design and learning

  • Support strategic gender work (GBV, WEE, Women´s Voice) within CARE Germany with a focus on Gender in Emergencies

  • Scout new funding opportunities and work closely with CARE Germany Desk Officers and country offices to assess opportunities that contribute to gender equality

  • Ensure that key data (from gender marker and program impact system) is collated, analyzed and informs planning and prioritization

Enhance staff understanding and practice in gender equality in programming (30%)

  1. Provide regular training on gender for CARE Germany staff

  2. Analyze training needs and ensure that specialist gender equality related training is made available to staff

  3. Know and share appropriately key gender related tools and resources with staff to enable them to improve the quality of their work

  4. Create learning and reflection spaces within CARE Germany to promote gender equality

Represent CARE Germany externally and internally on gender equality (10%)

  1. Collaborate closely with CARE Germany Gender focal point and Advocacy colleague on relevant gender related policy
  2. Represent CARE Germany with donors and other stakeholders including presenting CARE´s work and promoting CARE as an expert on gender equality amongst peers
  3. Network within CARE International and contribute to main discussion on gender within the wider organization
  4. Sit on CARE Germany´s gender team

Provide other support to the International Program Director as required (10%)

Reporting line:

The Gender Advisor reports to the International Program Director

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master’s degree in gender related studies

  • At least three years of relevant work experience and proven knowledge of gender in emergencies in a developing or crisis country

  • Excellent understanding of principles and familiarity with approaches in gender-responsive project design, monitoring and evaluation

  • Ability to confidently communicate to a variety of audiences in multi-cultural environments and cultural sensitivity

  • Excellent presentation skills

  • Strong facilitation, training and mentoring skills

  • Strong teamwork and relational skills

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and German. French/Spanish are an asset

  • Ability to execute and take on complex tasks in a responsible, self-organized and independent manner

  • Passionate feminist with a network in the sector

  • Capacity and Creativity to actively shape the scope of this role

  • Competent computer software skills

  • Ability to travel

Desired:

  • Knowledge of German/European donor landscape and current gender discussion in the sector

  • Experience in advocacy
