Organizational context

This is an exciting time for UNHCR. The organisation has recently undergone a process of realignment which led to the creation of a new Supporter Engagement Section, in which this position sits. The Supporter Engagement Section comprises Campaigns, Individual Giving and Digital Marketing teams and operates within the broader Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) section in headquarters (HQ). The function of PSP HQ, among others, is to support fundraising offices around the world with their national fundraising.

This position is within the Fundraising Campaigns Team which is responsible for the strategy, content and delivery of global thematic campaigns and appeals, one of the key drivers of growth for the organisation. Campaigns are a prioritized and growing area of work due to their potential to raise significant income for under-funded areas of work and to help increase UNHCR's brand equity. Current campaigns include Aiming Higher which funds scholarships for refugees, an annual winter campaign to help refugees survive harsh winter conditions, and a new Food Insecurity Appeal. The team also leads on an innovative new product called Connecting Worlds that connects donors directly with refugees and a number or shorter-term appeals such as for birth registration, and an appeal directly for our supporters who give via Crypto currencies.

The position

Based in UNHCR's offices in London, England, this is a unique opportunity to gain experience within the UN system as part of UNHCR's Division of External Relations, specifically working within the Supporter Engagement Section. The role will provide insight and experience in communication and fundraising functions, as well as administration and team support within the context of an international humanitarian organisation.

The role will support the communication officer with content management and the preparation, organisation, and coordination of communications packages for the Food Insecurity Appeal, the Winter Campaign, the Aiming Higher Campaign and Connecting Worlds Apps, as well as providing more general support in terms of preparation of reports and presentations. Photo, video, and social media all play a significant role in the work and an aptitude and interest in this area will be an advantage.

Duties and responsibilities

• Support with storing and managing photo and video assets on UNHCR’s database
• Supporting social media initiatives relating to fundraising campaigns
• Helping to draft creative decks and toolkits for relevant campaigns
• Assisting with the planning, execution and follow-up of projects, campaigns and missions, including participating in relevant meetings and helping to organise travel arrangements.

• Complete ad-hoc tasks, including meeting support
• Media monitoring/social listening to identify trends

NOTE: An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.
