PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The “TB Innovations and Health Systems Strengthening” project is a 5-year USAID funded project that aims to strengthen national and regional level implementation of the National TB Strategic Plan by providing state-of-the-art capacity building and technical expertise to scale-up TB and DR-TB prevention, detection and treatment. The Activity will identify and help implement proven approaches to improve TB prevention, increase TB case detection rates, decrease default rates, and increase TB treatment success rates and TB cure rates.

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs accounting and financial duties for a department or unit. Works with various sources of funding which may include sponsored research, and federal restricted funds, grants and contracts. Performs audit function to assure accuracy and compliance with internal and external regulations. Selects and applies established procedures appropriately. Updates supervisor on status of projects as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares and updating the monitoring items for processing.

  • Establishes and manages accounting record keeping systems and procedures for tracking and reporting. Assists with reviewing invoices, cash advance processing and liquidations.

  • Provide payment advice to suppliers.

  • Communicates with management and project leaders regarding proposal development and monitoring of budgets to ensure projects adhere to budget constraints and meet completion.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Strong knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), budgeting and internal control theories and practices.

    • Working knowledge of general office practices and administrative procedures.

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills.

    • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.

    • Advanced MS Excel skills (creating spreadsheets and using financial functions). Familiarity with accounting software is a plus.

    • Ability to handle complex and confidential information with discretion.

    • Ability to work well with others and verify and analyze financial data, identify errors and prepare reports.

      WORKING CONDITIONS AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

      • Frequent interaction with program, administrative and other staff, implementing agencies, and banks.

      • Typical office environment.

      • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift 5 lbs.

      • Travel requirements; Less than 10%

        EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

        • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or its equivalent

        • Typically requires 1-3 years of accounting or finance experience.

        • Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with client and staff.

        • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English; fluent in host country language as appropriate.

        • Computer spreadsheet experience required.

        • Prior experience working with international NGOs and government organizations will be an advantage.
