About this position

The Environmental and Social Solutions Unit (VPS/ESG) of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is responsible for ensuring that IDB financed projects and other activities are environmentally and socially sustainable and comply with the Bank’s environmental and social policies. Specialists in (VPS/ESG) provide the Bank and its borrowers with guidance on environmental and social safeguard issues and participate in project teams, providing technical input on social and environmental issues during project preparation/due-diligence and supervision.

ESG is seeking for an experienced Communication and Knowledge Specialist who will be responsible for developing and implementing a new collaborative and communicational culture to stimulate the continuous production of knowledge from ESG’s operational specialists in a manner that connect ESG best practices to communication-ready products and different audiences. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering key insights that provide rigor and structure to communication products, services, and platforms as vehicles to engage internal teams and IDB’s clients, sectors, and key stakeholders.

The Communication and Knowledge Specialist will integrate the Capacity Building and Communications Group’s team that oversees the implementation of the IDB’s Environmental and Social Performance Framework, procedures and guidance, and curates and disseminates knowledge from the full spectrum of ESG activities to further the learning, development and application of good practices and lessons to ESG, IDB staff, clients, and stakeholders at large.

What you’ll do:

The selected candidate will support Capacity Building and Communications Group’s team in the following activities and not limited to:

Strategic Communications Planning:

· Support the design and development of ESG’s Intranet on ESPS’s instruments and referential material for ESG Specialists use to promote collaboration and to foster consistency.

· Support the design and development of ESG’s Repository Documents and its reformulation in order to meet the needs of ESG Operational Specialists.

· Play a role of focal point of ESG to Knowledge Innovation and Communication department (KIC) in regard of the digital presence of ESG in the IDBs website and ecosystem.

· Support the development and design of communication materials, presentations, ESG internal and external newsletters, diffusion of blogs and online courses, and provide quality review of ESG templates for communication led by ESG specialists.

· Provide support for the production and promotion of ESG publications, technical notes and academic papers, and work closely with Capacity Building and Communications Group’s team to ensure that internal and external events are clearly communicated with target audiences ahead of an event, and that results are shared with broader audiences through social media to targeted and general audiences, IDBs website, and publications.

· Support the implementation of the Communication Strategy approved in 2023 while playing an active role in improving the internal communications and collaboration within the ESG and specifically with the specialists that are based in the Country Offices of IDB in the region.

· Collaborate with KIC, EXR and ESG Hubs in the region to promote ESG within the Bank through marketing campaigns promoting ESG products and its added value.

Operational Support:

· Coach and build leader and manager communications capabilities and key messages within ESG’s operational team.

· Support the need to ground all ESG’s communications in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

· Support ESG Champions, ESG Guidance Service and Sector Liaisons in their communication needs to promote cooperation and consistency in their messages and products.

· Support the creation of high-impact ESG events by reviewing talking points, briefing notes and one-pagers for the Unit Chief and other Group Heads in preparation for key ESG events.

· Review the actual portfolio of ESG knowledge, learning and communicational products, services and platforms including newsletter, blogs, intranet, webpages, workshop materials, etc., to assure it will be aligned with the new Communication Strategy.

· Determining indicators that measure outcomes of communication activities and measures on how to improve its results.

What you'll need:

· Education: Master's degree, graduate program or advanced studies in Communications, journalism, public relations, or related field.

· Experience: At least 5 years of experience in communications, marketing, web writing, editing and related fields.

· Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Key skills:

· Technical Skills: Knowledge of SharePoint, Mailchimp and Teams. Proficiency in creating marketing campaign. Proficiency in editing and translation of documents. Proficiency with dissemination platforms and other data visualization tools.

· Soft Skills: Team player, inclusive, innovative, and creative, client-oriented, results-driven, with strong communication and visualization skills.
