Job Summary

The Development Macroeconomics Division (DMD) of the Research Department of the IMF is looking for an Economist under a one-year contract (renewable for a total of 4 years maximum, pending funding and performance). The candidate will work on research projects of interest to the division, and the development and application of models to country cases, in areas such as climate adaptation, energy transition, public investment, and fiscal policy. Outputs will typically include practical toolkits, research papers and contributions in policy.


Minimum Qualifications

Educational development, including and/or supplemented by work experience, typically acquired through the completion of a

  • master’s degree in economics, finance, statistics, math, or computer science, or a related field PLUS four years of relevant professional experience; OR
  • PhD in macroeconomics or a related field such as monetary economics, financial economics, public finance, international trade, or econometrics, is required.

    The position also requires knowledge and experience in the application of modern modeling techniques of macroeconomics, such as calibrated and estimated Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium models. The candidate will need to exercise independent judgment, function with limited supervision, interact with teams across the IMF, review the work of research assistants, and contribute to the divisional research agenda. Familiarity with the software packages Matlab and Dynare would be desirable, as would some track record of research papers in related fields.
