Summary
The Development Impact department (DIME) is part of the World Bank's Development Economics Vice Presidency. DIME's purpose is to increase the use of impact evaluation (IE) in the design and implementation of public policy and to develop institutional capacity and motivation for evidence-based policy. DIME aims to overcome the challenge of identifying true cause-and-effect relations in policy programs. By linking researchers to policymakers and feeding results back into policies, DIME fosters systematic use of evidence, which informs adoption, mid-course corrections, and scale-up of policies.Through workshops and clinics with operational staff and government clients, joint research teams, active field coordination, as well as research products such as seminars, papers, and policy briefs, DIME builds capacity while forming a wider community of practice. DIME accompanies impact evaluations during their entire life-cycle. It starts with assessing demand, identifying research questions, as well as supporting project implementation, high quality data collection, analysis, and dissemination of results.The UX designer will contribute to advancing DIME’s objectives and initiatives by providing design guidance and applying human centered design methods. They will contribute to the following initiatives and beyond to expand the digital capacity and systems associated with institutions and counterparts who apply impact evaluation in policy programs.
Causal AI
Using large language models and a comprehensive dataset of impact evaluation research studies, DIME is developing a generative AI assistant to enhance the accessibility of causal evidence from development economics for researchers, policy makers, and development organizations. Central to this system is a web interface where users will be able to effortlessly engage with this rich repository of knowledge using natural language through a user-friendly interface powered by generative AI, making informed decisions more achievable than ever before.
JORISS 2.0
The World Bank is supporting the Government of Jordan (MoJ) to enhance its institutional capacity in planning and preparing for protracted displacement caused by the ongoing refugee crisis. The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation has commenced the modernization effort of the Jordan Response Platform for the Syrian Crisis (JORISS), where DIME is providing technical assistance. A key component of the project involves the re-design of the user interface to facilitate smooth and productive user journeys of various personas using the digital platform.
Description
The scope of work will require the UX designer to interview potential end users, define user roles, design user journeys, and create UX wireframes for web interfaces. The candidate should be a highly motivated person with a minimum of three years of professional experience in UX research or design, proficiency in UX design tools, and knowledge of user-centric design principles and methodologies. The candidate will receive feedback and guidance from the research team from DIME and they will work applying their knowledge, creativity, and exercising independent judgement for the completion of these tasks.
Role & Responsibilities:
The User Experience Designer will have the following responsibilities:
1. Conduct user research to gather insights into the needs, behaviors, and preferences of users from a UX-centric perspective.
2. Define user roles and their specific objectives to inform the assessment of the existing information system, and the design recommendations for an improved system.3. Design user journeys and corresponding system features and functionalities that align with the identified user roles and their operational objectives.
4. Collaborate effectively with DIME researchers, NLP specialists, and software developers to integrate UX design principles, ensuring a user-centric approach to system design.5. Create high-fidelity interactive UX wireframes to visualize and communicate the proposed design solutions.
6. Provide expert advice and recommendations on UX best practices, design thinking, and usercentric design approaches throughout the project lifecycle.7. Conduct usability testing and iterate designs based on user feedback and evaluation to optimize the user experience.
8. Prepare detailed reports documenting user research findings, UX design proposals, wireframes, and usability test results.
Selection Criteria
• A minimum of three years of professional experience as a User Experience (UX) Designer or related role; or a Masters degree in User Experience or related field and two years of UX professional experience.
• Strong knowledge of user-centric design principles and methodologies, including design thinking,user research, digital information architecture, and human–computer interaction design.
• Proven ability to conduct user research, define user roles, design user journeys, and create highfidelity interactive UX wireframes.
• Proficiency in UX design tools, such as Sketch, Adobe XD, or Figma, to develop visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces.
• Experience in collaborating with software engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to integrate UX design principles into the development process.
• Experience conducting UX research or UX interface design for developing countries will be considered a strong plus.
• Excellent fluency in speaking and writing English.
• Demonstrate an understanding of governmental technology requirements, processes, and potential downstream economic impacts.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate user insights into actionable design recommendations.
• Self-motivated and proactive approach to project management, demonstrating the ability to drive UX tasks forward, meet project deadlines, and effectively communicate with stakeholders.
• Experience as UX designer in the context of public sector information or public good projects will be considered a strong plus.
