The Blended Finance – New Business and Portfolio (CBFNP) division sits in the Partnerships & Blended Finance Department, managing a pool of contributor funds of over USD 7 billion dollars focused on accelerating IFC’s engagement in the most developmentally impactful areas. It seeks to support transactions that catalyze private sector investment in developmentally impactful projects that are just at the threshold of commercial viability but need some concessional finance to de-risk or help rebalance the risk-reward profile of these project to draw in private sector investors. To that end, CBFNP manages various pools of contributor funds aimed at meeting various development objectives in the most challenging environments and poorest countries, and for priority sectors such as climate change, gender, infrastructure, agriculture and food security, SME finance. It works closely as a cross-cutting product group, with industry investment teams and regional departments within IFC, colleagues across the World Bank/IDA global practice groups and regions.
Role and responsibilities: CBFNP is seeking an experienced Extended Term Consultant (ETC) writer/editor to support communications with donor partners and to create and manage a series of articles for external audiences that demonstrate the impact of Blended Finance in emerging markets and the return on investment for IFC partners. This role will involve working with partnerships and investment officers from across the institution to turn ideas into sharp and relevant reports and articles that will be disseminated directly to donors and through IFC's corporate digital channels. Key thematic areas covered include climate change and the energy transition, trade and trade finance, financial market development, digital technologies and start-ups, jobs, and gender equality. S/he will also work closely with designers, other editors, and communications officers to develop a product that influences partnership outcomes and raises awareness of IFC's impact. The Editor will be a motivated and dynamic professional with extensive knowledge of private sector development, business, and finance, particularly as it relates to relationships with donors. S/he will be an excellent writer with a strong track record of publications. S/he will also be experienced in steering reports and other editorial projects through the production process and be comfortable negotiating with authors on how to make their projects more relevant and appealing to external audiences. The successful candidate will be expected to produce compelling articles and short reports that are aligned with IFC’s priorities and that readers can easily digest. 

Selection Criteria

•  Advanced degree in Journalism, Economics, or a related field, with 8 years or more experience in editing economics and business research.•  Big picture thinker, while maintaining a sharp eye for details.•  Excellent writing, editing, and message development skills.•  Broad knowledge of current events and trends in emerging markets, including economics, business, policy and technology. •  The candidate should have a strong understanding of modern communications, including digital channels, social media, video and podcasts, and publishing trends. •  Proven ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with authors and with colleagues across functional departments, geographies, and disciplines through collaborative leadership skills.•  Commitment to the World Bank Group and IFC’s mission and values.
