Work LocationBangkok Expected durationUp to 6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis internship is located within the Disaster risk Reduction Section (DRS) of the Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction Division of ESCAP. The internship is UNPAID and full-time for a period of two to six months, depending on the needs of the division or office. Qualified applicants who can commit to a longer internship duration will be preferred. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) in-person under the supervision of the Chief, Disaster Risk Reduction Section and the relevant officer/s within DRS who are leading task teams and projects. Applicants who wish to do their internship remotely will be considered on a case- by-case basis. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to: • Contribute to the quantitative and qualitative analysis on the socio-economic impacts of disasters • Assist in organizing international conferences and meetings • Carry out other ad hoc tasks as required by the Section and the Division Qualifications/special skillsa) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent) No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset. Additional InformationThe major objective of Disaster Risk Reduction Section: • Policy options and strategies on multi-hazard disaster risk reduction and mitigation • Regional cooperation mechanism for disaster risk management, including space and other technical support systems • Multi-hazard assessment, preparedness, early warning and response to disaster risk • Building resilience to natural disasters through mainstreaming disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation into the development agenda of countries Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, health insurance, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
