GIZ has been supporting the district government in Dedza in coordinating food and nutrition security interventions since 2015. The food system landscape is characterised by a multitude of actors from different government sectors as well as Non-governmental-organizations (NGOs). The District Nutrition Coordination Committee responsible for planning, implementation and monitoring of existing nutrition programmes, including the contributions of NGOs operating under this programme, is facing challenges like restricted resources and recurrent crises. The programme supports both the nutrition governance structures at decentralized and national level as well as cross-sectoral nutrition-sensitive interventions in two districts in Malawi through partner NGOs, with the aim of changing the nutritional behaviour of mothers so that they feed their children more diversely.

Place of residence: Dedza, Central Region, Malawi. Climate: 20-25 degrees on average, down to 5 degrees in winter Health care: limited health care on site; basic health care in Lilongwe (100 km); malaria prophylaxis recommended Shopping and supply possibilities: Limited supply in Dedza, good supply in Lilongwe. Banks, post office, police station, small shops and market available. Accessibility: Good road from Lilongwe to Dedza (app. 1,5 hours drive); internet access and mobile networks mostly available. School situation and school fees: The project site is not suitable for families with school-age children.
The security situation requires heightened vigilance. Tailored security risk mitigation measures are in place for GIZ staff in country. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. Please also check the county-specific information provided by the German Federal Foreign Office. A contact person for security risk management is appointed at the local GIZ office. The working environment is subject to special restrictions on the freedom of movement. GIZ does not impose any restrictions on life partners and family members to move with you to the country of deployment.
