About the Program:
The Global Development Department is composed of four main philanthropic sectors (Corporates, Government and Multilaterals, Foundations, and Individuals). The Department creates and monitors the implementation of the institutional fundraising strategy with each of these sectors, raises core funding and seals strategic institute-wide partnerships, advises WRI teams on project specific fundraising, promotes internal coordination in fundraising across the institute and sets institute-wide donor retention and engagement strategies.

You will manage and deepen WRI’s institutional relations with selected governments and multilateral institutions outside of Europe. This requires the execution of donor engagement and business development strategies, support for proposal development, and strengthening internal coordination around necessary strategic partners. You will be supported by and manage the Development Specialist
What will you do:
Coordinate and deepen WRI’s strategic relations with the US government (50%):
Oversee the implementation of WRI’s USAID Fundraising and Engagement Strategy Identify synergies between additional US government (USG) agencies priorities (e.g., Department of State) and WRI’s programs and country strategies Coordinate the development of large proposals with active engagement from relevant WRI Programs, Centers of Excellence and Regional/Country Offices, and review responses to major funding opportunities from USAID and other USG agencies Lead institutional engagement. Facilitate meetings with senior-level US government representatives, prepare briefing memos and represent WRI in working level meetings Strengthen internal processes to ensure coordinated contacts with important government agencies. Organize and moderate the internal USG Community of Practice, used to share information, communicate donor policies and communicate lessons learned internally Use the CRM database Salesforce to monitor the fundraising pipeline with a portfolio of managed donorsCoordinate and deepen WRI’s strategic engagement with relevant global funds (30%):
Identify synergies between major global climate funds’ priorities (e.g. GEF) and WRI’s program and country strategies Coordinate and centrally manage the development of large cross-programmatic proposals for the aforementioned, along with other organizations, and assist with the sealing and deepening partnerships with main accredited implementation partners Lead institutional engagement and facilitate regular meetings with senior-level representatives from these funds Strengthen internal coordination amongst staff working with these Funds, keep your partners up to date and initiate an internal Community of Practice Use the CRM database Salesforce to monitor the fundraising pipeline within portfolio of managed donorsOther tasks (20%):
Explore ways to deepen WRI’s strategic engagement with other non-European government agencies (e.g. Canada) in mutually beneficial funding and program-oriented relationships Be the direct line manager for the Development Specialist positionWhat will you need:
Education: You have a completed an advanced (Masters) degree in international relations, international development, international project management, fundraising or a related topic Experience: You have 7+ years of work experience in fundraising with governments and multilaterals in a global think-tank, non-for profit organization, international research institute or multilateral institution You have a track record in developing large winning proposals for USAID. Strong communications and negotiation skills Able to represent the World Resources Institute in external meetings Familiarity with international development, climate and environmental issues Excellent proofreading experience developing and reviewing large proposals for donors (5M USD+) Comfortable to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and able to take initiate Attentiveness and good organizational skills Ability to work in a multicultural environment with diverse staff across multiple time zones Working knowledge of Client Relationship Management (CRM) systems, mainly Salesforce Languages: Verbal and written English proficiency.
